Title: “Hill county symphony “
Media: mixed media on canvas
Size: 30 x 40 inches The title of this painting refers to the rhythm 🥁 of the interplay of dark and light, luminous colors and shadow playing in the hues. In many ways, that painting has been performed in my noggin for years, as I’ve observed and photographed the cactus in the area around me, and on numerous road trips and hikes. Much more specifically, over the last few years, as I’ve painted manifestations of this theme a few times. I’ve always been fascinated by the appearance and coloration of the fruit of the cactus, especially the juxtaposition of the perception of succulent sweetness against the obvious pain of encountering the needles of the nopal’s defenses. I am a huge fan of our Almighty Creator and His work. Out in the Hill Country, when the cacti are in bloom, the entirety of the view is resplendent with dozens upon dozens of exquisite varieties of greens —sage, cedar, oak, grasses, and shrubs I won’t pretend to be able to name. And then, in the midst of all these greens, BOOM 💥 yellow! Orange! Violet, purple, and red. So incredibly sweet and sublimely beautiful. Well , truly I hope you enjoy the painting.
