Did you know Old Washington was founded in 1786 by Arthur Fox Sr., with Simon Kenton as one of its earliest and most influential settlers?

Fox laid out the town, but Kenton’s reputation, landholdings, and frontier leadership helped the village grow. Their partnership shaped the early community that stood along the Limestone Road — the same road whose stories come alive in The Great Road Speaks.

Walk the path they once traveled this June and experience the history where it happened.

Friday Folklore Feature: The Moon‑Eyed People

According to Appalachian legend, the mountains were once home to a mysterious group known as the Moon‑Eyed People, described as pale, small‑statured beings who could only see at night and avoided the sunlight.

Stories about them stretch across Cherokee oral tradition and early frontier lore, blending myth, mystery, and the deep imagination of the Appalachian hills.

If you love the strange, the old, and the whispered‑about, you’ll feel right at home with the world of Echoes of Appalachia and the stories we bring to life.
