This class will be a valuable educational experience for TEACHERS, ACTORS, SOCIAL WORKE
RS, ACTIVISTS, LEADERS IN TRAINING – ANYONE who wants to use their skills to make the world a better place, inside and outside the classroom! DESCRIPTION: Students will take a look at Applied Theatre theory and methods (i.e. modified Theatre of the Oppressed), and work together to create interactive theatre programs for the GVSU community in order to raise awareness about relationship violence, sexual violence and stalking. Students will work collaboratively to devise original theatre work, refine their facilitation techniques, and enhance their improvisational acting skills. Students will also be encouraged to explore issues of diversity (i.e. gender, sexuality, etc) with respect to interpersonal violence. This course is part of an ongoing partnership with the Women’s Center, with the goal of raising awareness on the GVSU campus about relationship violence.
** Banner course description is INCORRECT = course actually lasts all semester, deals with interpersonal violence instead of Shakespeare, and no audition required.
*This course is also a PREREQUISITE for participation in GVSU’s own “ReACT!” performing troupe for the 2015-2016 school year = PAID positions as peer theatre educators
• All majors are welcome; Theatre majors / minors, and Women’s Studies majors / minors encouraged to register.
• This class is best suited for individuals who are comfortable presenting in front of peers.
• Some past performance experience (i.e. High School theatre productions) will be helpful but not required.
• Students will learn how to enhance their presentation skills and facilitation techniques while employing methods of theatrical performance.
• Registration is open to Freshmen through Seniors. QUESTIONS? Contact “Dr. Alli” at [email protected]
