Espina Loca is a magical cactus nymph and renegade gunslinger whose psychotic viciousness is hidden beneath her otherwise pleasant, unassuming smile.

She originates from an alternate version of Earth where mythical fairies were slowly being displaced and eradicated by human industrialists during the 1800s, forcing her into a life of violence against any who would challenge her. She was eventually hunted down and killed by Elven bounty hunters near the Mexican-American border in 1902.

However, said version of Earth (Earth-SM125112394 to be precise) will soon be invaded and conquered by The Divine Darkness Society (DDS for short), the largest alliance of deadly monsters, supervillains, destroyers, mad scientists, dark sorcerers, and maniacs in the known multiverse which resurrects Espina Loca and drafts her straight into their Warrior Division.

Now gifted with nearly unlimited sonic-percussion pistols over antiquated ammunition-based ones, Espina Loca's first task was to join in the hunting and eradication of her home world's wealthy human elite (including the same hired elves who had originally killed her), before being brought to DDS's main dimension of operations, Bastard Victorious.

Despite her newfound loyalty to The Divine Darkness Society, Espina Loca mainly keeps to herself among the DDS's countless citizens, though she has set up a small cliff-based cave dwelling outside The Resurrection Center, a city-sized medical complex overseen by the gigantic Doctor Dumond Linchpin (yes, they roped him in as well).

July 2026 UPDATE: I honestly was getting some criticism for the photographic elements and, considering how well my Galtan fan-piece came out with mostly original artistry, decided to give Tobozu a much-needed facelift in the background areas.

Tobozu (トーボーズ) is one of the more recognizable Pachimon Kaiju, debuting in the third Yamapro produced set, Monster Confrontation.

The bootlegged creature is a combination between Gamera (ガメラ) and the Ultraman monster Magular (マグラー), menacing what appears to be The Port of Genoa, Italy, within its original bromide card.

I don't have access to foreign travel and thus reused photos taken of Hermosa Beach alongside my own fanart based on the monster.

Arkitius the Giant Squid Monster - July 2021

Chosen by you guys in a recent poll (please vote on the new current one HERE), comes my rendition of a truly obscure kaiju, the titular hero of "Giant Squid Monster Arkitius" (大烏賊アーキティウス).

I earnestly do mean hero when discussing Arkitius because, in the story, he battles against German submarines (piloted by those fanatical fascists whom many modern Americans are now disgustingly idolizing or passively defending) during World War II.

Unfortunately, there is no "Giant Squid Monster Arkitius" for the thrilling movie that was never made. Yes, Arkitius is another unmade kaiju project, one of four film concepts considered by Nikkatsu during their attempt to enter the Kaiju Boom of the 1960s as Godzilla, Ultraman, and Gamera saw great success on the big and small screens during said time.

Arkitius is the third of four film concepts considered, beginning with "Momonra" (a giant, mutated flying squirrel who appears one day and wreaks havoc), followed by "Giant Monster Gigant" (giant alien life-form resembling a spider who arrives on Earth and causes destruction), and ending with "Reigon: Devil of the Seabed" (a giant manta ray menaces the world before fighting a giant iguana). However, in the end, these four projects (plus a fifth test short featuring a fairy-tale-style Giant entering a modern city) were all dropped in favor of the ultimately completed "Gappa, the Triphibian Monster" (1967).

Like the vast majority of unmade monsters, Arkitius lacks any existing design, thus I had to do some educated guess work on what a hypothetical superhero cephalopod from the 1960s would look like: I decided to keep Arkitius extremely simple in appearance as I figured the fairly natural animal-based character would likely have been brought to life through puppetry, similar to how Kumonga and the Giant Octopus were handled at Toho. To soften Arkitius appearance, I added a huge pair of adorable eyes to give him some noticeable soul and personality, common of many Japanese movie and television monsters from the era (SEE Baragon, Minilla, Gappa, Gamera, and the majority of Ultraman creatures).

GIANTS: FRIEND OR FOE (2003) is a relatively educational documentary on the mighty beings of mythology and their impact on human culture, though at times the narrative is stretched a bit with some of the subjects covered:

This documentary, along with Carol Rose's excellent book "Giants, Monsters, and Dragons: An Encyclopedia of Folklore, Legend, and Myth" (2000), solidified these cloud-inhaling humanoids as my top favorite species in fantasy fiction, Dragons and Unicorns be damned (sorry, Dragons and Unicorns).
