Miraclesformike 885 Miles to Tennessee: Bring the Roo to Mike

Adversity comes in many different shapes and forms.

Through the power of social media, we will connect to the people and resources that can make it possible for a professional camera crew to follow 3 of Mike's close friends as they set out to Bonnaroo for the 1st time Maybe you're struggling to graduate or get into grad school, maybe you're unemployed and unsure, maybe you're trying to mend a broken heart. For Mike Tumminia, his adversity comes in

the shape of a brain tumor, 8.5 centimeters in diameter. But even more importantly, his adversity comes in miles, 885 miles to be exact. Mike was diagnosed with meningioma, a tumor that grows from the layers of tissue covering the brain, 13 days before he was set to depart for Bonnaroo, the music festival that, in his own words, is:

"The greatest and most powerful Music and Arts Festival in the world. Where I learned what unconditional love and free flowing energy was in 110 degree weather in a dust bowl." It was with more sadness that he lamented his inevitable absence from this festival, than his diagnosis of the intruding mass behind his eyes. But it's with the clearest and most hopeful eyes that Mike is looking forward to recovery. And by joining our movement, MiraclesForMike, you can stand behind him and walk the miles — however many it may take — to overcome this adversity. Our Mission: Through the power of social media, we will connect to the people and resources that can make it possible for a professional camera crew to follow three of Mike's close friends as they set out to Bonnaroo for the first time so he can experience the Roo for a third year. We look forward to hearing from you, every email is another mile!

To everyone, everywhere:

Today we are privileged enough to be able to measure the power of a miracle.

It's been 365 days since Mikey T went into battle with a brain tumor, and 365 days since he came out the victor. No matter where you are, where you've come from or where you're going, if you're reading this, it means that today you find yourself with air in your lungs and a heart pumping blood. Forget what you want and let that be all you need. Be grateful for the opportunity to live, to learn, to grow, to smile, to laugh. And be thankful for the opportunity to hurt and cry and get knocked on your ass...because today we are reminded that when we are faced with challenges, miracles happen if we open ourselves up to them. Today we are able to measure the power of a miracle because this one year marker reminds us that the power of miracles is infinite, and will continue well into each moment we have yet to experience. Enjoy this beautiful summer Saturday everyone! Spread love and hope and celebrate life :)

Michael was taking a long well deserved nap (Michael loves his naps) and I was sitting here in the family waiting room looking out at the East River, boats and the beautiful sky so my presence in his room won't disturb him when I started this update a couple of hours ago.

The strides Michael is making in healing and recovery are truly amazing. He continues to rest, talk, challenge his brain with Lumosity and make us laugh with his wittiness all while eating and eating and eating.

He is so happy to hear that some of you have asked to visit here at ICU and though he'd love to see you, he doesn't seem quite ready just yet. He is enjoying the comfort and peacefulness of the nurses routine, eating and quietly focusing on healing and resting at his own pace. When he feels ready to have visitors, we will keep you posted because he can't wait to see all of you!

When He walked with the physical therapist this morning he didn't feel challenged enough so she had him constantly moving his head as he was walking and he did very well. He walked with me and a nurse this afternoon to the solarium and enjoyed seeing the outside world.

They removed his drain, turban and closed up the hole this afternoon and put a lesser padded turban on his head. More like a skull cap now.

He has had most of the tubes etc removed from his arms and he may go to a step down unit soon.

God Bless All of You!
