π¨ This month I will be painting from life every day and posting to instagram. This will be a fun challenge as I see 740 or so Elementary art students a week (so not much easel time!)
π My goal is to create quick sketches from life to simplify my composition and nail the correct values. My first medium was watercolor so I tend to sneak up on values.
βοΈ I paint or create everyday, because it fills my cup and is something just for me. My paintings my not always be successful, but the time at the easel is a precious gift! Day 1

Gifts of Asia, 12 x 16 inches, oil on linen. My new favorite painting π. I love how the composition spills from back to front and the pop of red.
Fun times at model night at Creative Brush Studio/Gallery experimenting with different papers!
A nice peek of the CLWAC at the Salmagundi Club!

Garden of Memories, 8 x 8 inches, oil on panel, available at my website. A precious little plein air sketch from my own garden.
Recently completed, Ivory and Alabaster, 18 x 14 inches, oil on linen panel, combines two of my favorite flowers, roses and peonies!
Join me for a fun day of painting, June 18 !
Sometimes when I am stressed and don't have much time to create...a little watercolor can help me slow down and do something to ease my anxiety from daily to-do lists (teaching, packing for a renovation and oh, 700 grades a week!)
Art has the power to have a calming and meditative effect on the creator and gives joy and beauty to the collector!
Today's block in....loose and finding big shapes. Open roses are like teacups... the centers are always warmer and darker than you think. This doesn't look like much yet, but laying the foundation.
β€οΈ For the Love of...β€οΈ
25 artists chose one word and created four 10 x 10 paintings as interpretations of that word. Here is my interpretation of 4 the love of roses! Opening June 5th from 2:00 to 5:00.

Vote or suggest a name for this painting, 11 x 14, oil on linen panel....(1) Plenty of Pink, (2) Butterfly Besties, (3) Crazy for Coneflowers...
Potomac Nights, 18 x 18 inches, having fun with color, looseness and more abstract.
Eden Climber One, 10 x 10 inches, oil on cradled panel...excited about this series of four 10 x 10 paintings coming soon for a summer show ! My concept is a grouping of climbing David Austin Roses that connect on all four panels. πΈ
π» (Detail. Prayers for Ukraine, 8 x 10 oil on panel) Blue delphinium and the yellow mirror the Ukrainian πΊπ¦. Live auction for this painting this Saturday, March 19th, right here in my instagram feed. 100% of proceeds to go to Catholic Relief Services to support Ukraine and displaced families.
π» How it works: reply to my post on Saturday with a bid, $25.00 increments appreciated. Starting bid $350 includes frame and shipping π» Full painting and frame will be revealed Saturday at 9:00 EST.
πΉ today's block-in. Spent most of my time arranging flowers...2nd day roses are more fun to paint there has to be some fading flowers for compositional interest!
Love this frame for this poor man's Fantin, copy of Six Yellow Roses in a Vase! Learned a lot by studying the Maestro of Roses. (Swipe right to see the real deal.)
Decisions, decisions...I love how the black frame puts the emphasis on the roses but I also love how the champagne colored frame pulls out the warm tones and complements the background color.
Which do you prefer? πΉ
Through the Vines, 9 x 12 watercolor on paper. Come to the bottle signing of 2020 Valle Tranquilo wine this Saturday (February 12th) starting at noon.
What could be better than art and wine?
π· It was so fun signing bottles The 2020 Valle Tranquilo is a joint effort of the Loudon Heights Wine Trail (www.LHATC.org) and features my watercolor, Bold Blend on the label. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality, delicious wine π· and support of local artists.
My Funny Valentine, 8 x 10, oil on linen panel. This little rose painting looks stunning in a black frame with a silver lip!
πΉ Swipe right to see how I approach painting roses, from the outline of shapes, to the simple light and dark value/shapes, then details and checking edges.
πΉ Interested in learning how to paint flowers? I will be giving a oil painting workshop in the Spring . All levels welcome. More details to come!
I love the stumbled colors of purple, mauve and transparent oxide red in the warm shadows. This copper cup was fun to paint with all of the reflected bits of color.
Copper Cup with Pansies, 8 x 10, oil on linen panel.
Close but no cigar! Some paintings paint themselves, others are a labor of β€. Lots of things to fix and adjust, but I am excited with the direction it is going. Some flowers need to recede in this arrangement... looking forward to my easel time today.
π· I love how this frame from accentuates the color blends in my watercolor. Can't wait to enjoy a sip of the 2020 Valle Tranquilo at Feb. 5th at 2:00.
π· Come join us for the bottle signing and wine release!
π²I love this time of year, decorating cooking, and socializing, but often I don't have as much time to be creative with my favorite medium of oils. My soul still craves to create and a quick little watercolor does the trick. Winter berries and Friend, 9 x 12 watercolor will be available in my etsy shop this evening.
π²Enjoy the holiday season, bit eek out a little time for you as well during the merry hustle and bustle!
π²Enjoy this Merry Season!

Does self-doubt sneak in when you are painting? π¨ Sometimes when I am in the middle stages I think I have forgotten how to paint or a little voice tells me I am not good enough. π Self-doubt can be crippling...it leads to smudging, licking, noodling.. basically killing the paint. Often if I take a break, forge on and use a new tool, like my trusty palette knife that forces me to make a big mark and leave it. How do you get rid of self-doubt? β₯οΈ #paintingprocess #paintanyway #paintdaily #fakeittillyoumakeit #keeppainting #keepgoing #yougotthis #workthroughit #benicetoyourself #confidence
