William & Adrienne will also be playing the Earth Harp during the Sound Garden Parties along with many other great artists & DJ’s, Thursday night & Sunday Sunrise!
WILLIAM CLOSE, creator / inventor of the instrument and over 200 others, brings the amazing giant musical strings of THE EARTH HARP back to the Playa for Burning man 2023!
We are super excited to announce that the Earth Harp is coming back to the Playa for Burning Man 2023 later this month! The installation and performances will feature a whole new level of Earth Harp technology as both the visual and sound designs have evolved so much.
Creating and performing with with William will be the talented Adrienne “Aeb” Byrne! Adrienne is a multi instrumentalist, composer, and producer that has been helping to build a new direction of experimental Earth Harp music! The beautiful harmonic resonance produced through the strings of the instrument mesh into a symphonic and modern music with an experimental, tonal, and rhythmic SOUND!
This promises to be a very synergistic collaboration! We have teamed up with the creators of SOUND GARDEN to create this immersive resonant experience.
SOUND GARDEN is a stunning Burning man organization and community that presents amazing musicians, artists, and sound healers throughout the week. It is awesome to be collaborating with Mark Duncan the creator of SOUND GARDEN, has been working with William to plan the Earth Harp String installation and its connection to the architecture and community. Sound Garden producer/creator Lauren Stocksdale has been the visionary for EARTH HARP @ SOUND GARDEN , bringing everyone together with her super positive visionary attitude along with her love and passion for the art of music and sound healing!
Earth Harp is but one of the amazing artists that Lauren and the team have put together to perform, heal, and inspire at Sound Garden throughout the week!!

The SOUND GARDEN landscape and its awesome community become and are the instrument with the Earth Harp installation experience.
The Earth Harp will be installed into the dynamic sonic architecture of the Sound Garden camp. The multi layer hundred foot golden strings will stretch out over the Sound Garden music and sound healing venues and then tie directly into camp & the Playa itself. The installation of strings connects into the SOUND GARDEN camp community bringing harmonic melodic vibration to the Playa and the Burning Man community at large!

These newly discovered, beautiful pulse patterns are pulled out of the acoustic tones created on the giant strings. We rub the strings with violin rosin to create the lush harmonic melody, chords and rhythmic beauty on the Earth Harp.
We will be performing 30 min Earth Harp concerts most evenings at Sunset!

Here’s a bit more William Close and EARTH HARP, some of its history, installations and adventures!
William Close is the inventor, creator and musical explorer of the EARTH HARP! William has invented over 200 musical instruments and experiences. He is primarily known for his work with the amazing EARTH HARP, a giant stringed instrument with strings stretching from 100 to 1000 feet in length. The Earth Harp gets its title from the first time it was installed. William and his team ran strings from one side of the canyon across to the other side turning the Canyon into a giant HARP - the worlds first EARTH HARP! Since then he has had many epic adventures with the instrument, installing and performing all around the World! Past installations/performances include the Colosseum in Rome, the Kennedy Center in DC, The Grand Theater in Shanghai, and appearances on multiple TV shows and in many festivals world wide. William was awarded the world record from Guinness and The World Record Association when he and his team strung the instrument 1000 feet to the top of a skyscraper in the country of Singapore!
It was 2011 when the Earth Harp made its debut at Burning Man. He installed 400 ft golden strings to the magnificent structures of The Temple of Transition. Burning man's largest temple! What an epic piece of architecture. William and his team spent the week playing the giant strings, creating music vibrated into the temple and the Playa itself. Thousands of Burnets would gather under the the strings for his concerts. The audience experienced the concerts while technically being in side and on top of the instrument! It was truly an epic project and a great way to bring the Earth Harp to Burning man for the first time!
