Magna-Yuzawa Sister City

Magna-Yuzawa Sister City The Magna-Yuzawa Educational & Cultural Exchange It has inspired community collaboration across the world.

Founded in 2003 as an international educational and cultural exchange program, the Magna-Yuzawa collaboration has provided an opportunity for Magna students to travel to Yuzawa, Japan, and vice versa. Junior and senior high school students from Brockbank and Matheson Jr. High Schools, and Cyprus and Hunter High Schools have had the historic opportunities each July to live with and learn from their

Japanese counterparts by residing in Yuzawa family homes on their two week visit to the beautiful and historically rich "Snow Country", which is home to the Onsens, or "hot springs". Likewise, students from Yuzawa reside with Magna families each August to experience "western culture" and learn about the great State of Utah.

I'm working on getting the website back up. Hopefully it will be soon. In the mean time, we are looking forward to the meeting at Matheson this coming Thursday.

The last Friday in Yuzawa was spent at the community center where we introduced ourselves to the senior citizens, had lunch, prepared food for the farewell party and enjoyed the nearby koi pond and park.

We enjoyed a relaxed afternoon visiting the dam and a foot spa with some free time to enjoy games in the park.

We were supposed to play ground golf one morning but the rain made that impossible. However, we had a great time welcoming the youngest students (kindergarten and preschool) as they arrived for school. We also had our picture taken by the maple trees that were planted by the Magna students in 2015 as a gift to Yuzawa. Later we visited the town office and council chambers.

We learned about silk worms, how silk is made and tried our hand at weaving on a traditional loom. We also made kaleidoscopes to bring home with us.
