The Grange Madison

The Grange Madison The Grange was founded in 2019 by Anna Stange and Bob Gronko.

After Bob retired from the Veterans Administration, he and Anna moved to Florida to start a small farm rooted in sustainability, organic practices, making music, and community involvement. Today, The Grange brings together their love of the land, their dedication to the arts, and their commitment to serving and connecting with their community.

Well, all my last batch of seedlings failed. Some kind of insect ate them, so I’ll try covering this batch with row cover. I won’t have the same selection, but still all good cool season veggies.

My cabbage resprout sadly failed—it rotted.

Wish me luck.

Carved Bowls & Woodcrafts

Bob started making bowls in 2021, when a neighbor brought over a couple Pecan logs to use for the smoker, and Bob thought they looked like they’d make better bowls than wood chips. He has been making bowls and other wood crafts from storm-damaged trees ever since.

When friends and neighbors generously share wood from their lost trees, they often come with cherished memories. Bob allows the trees to live on by returning a bowl to each donor.

Bob uses a chainsaw to do the initial carving, a grinder and sanders to sculpt and smooth the piece, and finishes each bowl with food-grade oil and beeswax.

Bob says, “I often have a vision of the finished product before starting, but sometimes a piece of wood has a mind of its own for me to follow.” —Just like the Pecan logs that started him on his artistic journey.

Bob's work is currently featured as the Artist of the Month in the Turner Center Gift Shop for the month of August.
