Handel Aria Competition The Handel Aria Competition is an event for emerging talented singers of Handel's operas and oratorios.

The inaugural Handel Aria Competition took place on Monday, July 8, 2013 in the Humanities Building on the UW campus. The concert was free and open to the public, and featured the 8 finalists selected from a field of 48 singers from across the US and Canada who auditioned. Since then the event has grown every year, with over 150 applicants from around the world. Visit our web site for details and

Congratulations to the seven exceptional singers chosen as finalists in the 2026 Handel Aria Competition - out of an international field of over 120 applicants! They will travel to Madison, Wisconsin to perform with the Madison Bach Musicians under the direction of Trevor Stephenson on Friday, August 7 in Grace Episcopal Church. General admission tickets will go on sale in July, and the concert will also be livestreamed. You won't want to miss this evening of Handel arias!

A pocket-sized Handel was created for this year’s Handel Festival in Halle, Germany.

Born as Georg Friedrich Händel in Halle (Saale), Germany in 1685, the world-famous Baroque composer settled in London in 1712 and became a British citizen in 1727.

His birth city, Halle, is holding a Handel Festival (Händel Festspiele) at the end of May every year.

This year, the Handel-Haus Foundation commissioned a Playmobil figure of Handel, which has been released just in time for the start of the festival.

The house in Halle, where the composer was born, known as Handel House, has been a museum since 1948.

The German-born British composer George Frideric Handel lived and worked in London from 1723 till his death in 1759. The house on Brook Street in London is also a museum known as Handel & Hendrix in London.
