Amalgam Improv Amalgam Improv is an improv group in Madison, Wisconsin, with the goal to highlight high-quality, independent teams.

We run innovative shows blending science, storytelling, music, and more all while keeping the comedy going. Amalgam Improv runs shows around Madison and hold reps and guest workshops for intermediate and advanced improvisers. All of our level 0 sessions and jams start off with these basic, 4 to 6 line scenes to help performers either return to or learn the building blocks of establishing a basic scene! ➡️ We’ve found this method is helpful in breaking down barriers or preventing ppl from “freezing up” on stage. 🥶 Sharing with the audience who we are, where we are, what we’re doing and even how we’re feeling can help us pivot out of an awkward or stilted moment and just overall set up an engaging scene to play in! From here, we apply these principles to non-scripted, long form scenes while using various other techniques to help us along the way! The next couple of weeks with Amalgam Improv are jam-packed, quite literally, with Open Jam July! We have our 2nd Anniversary Show coming up this Saturday, July 11th Bartell Theatre Madison which will kick off with an Open Jam, followed by our Improv Power Hour, and special performance by Big Honey Improv starring special guest Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford 🎉 We are so incredibly excited to see you all there and commemorate 2 years strong with the community that helped us get here!
