Iowa City Pedestrian Mall

Downtown Iowa City has withstood the test of time as having one of the rare remaining 20th Century pedestrian malls in the United States, and a thriving one at that! Of the 200+ pedestrian malls built in the Post-War era, only a few remain, mostly limited to those in college towns or highly touristed areas.

As other cities across the northern US have removed their downtown pedestrian malls, Iowa City has reaffirmed its own as the heart of the community by renovating it and continuing to program amazing events there. In the IC ped mall, you'll find comfortable outdoor seating, plazas, play spaces, event venues, thriving local restaurants and businesses, and a dynamic mix of modern high rises and historic storefronts.

Lisa Link Peace Park

Been working on another fun axon illustration, this time back to Madison along the State Street corridor! With a background in landscape architecture, the 300 block of State Street with Peace Park was a natural focus area. I spent a couple hours onsite sketching, experiencing the park as it’s used, observing spatial relationships and site amenities, and documenting the layout for a more developed graphic. While the shape of the lower peninsula of Michigan is often compared to a mitten, nobody really knows how to describe the shape of the UP. We're here to change that, with the concept of the UP as a dragon head! The area around Mount Arvon forms the dragon's eye, the Keweenaw Peninsula forms the dragon's biggest horn, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore forms the dragon's snout.

Inspired by the lakefront skylines of cities in the Great Lakes Region, this small-town Texas interpretation shows off downtown Granbury, Texas's collection of historic architecture, entertainment venues, and shops.

The Hood County Courthouse, as the centerpiece of the Granbury square, is one of several designed by architect W.C. Dodson. Similar designs can be found in Hillsboro's rebuilt Hill County Courthouse, Granbury's Hood County Courthouse, and Lampasas' Lampasas County Courthouse.
