I love going thrifting. It is stress relieving and on occasion I may find a piece to a furniture puzzle, I don’t even know exist yet. Lol
I collect antique lace doilies. Specifically ones that have “tatted” lace.
I watched my Mamaw Brown tat all my life. It is such a delicate, intricate, and beautiful art. I wish I had taken the time to slow down and sit down and let her teach me while she was still here. Tatting has to be perfect. It is not like crochet. If you mess up with tatting, you cannot unravel it. You have to start over because it is quite literally a series of decorative knots. It is done with actual thread and not yarn. And it is done with a “tatting shuttle”…. That’s the tool.
People are clueless mostly that this even exists….. but I know. So when I find it on something when thrifting, I sn**ch it up. I know how time consuming it is, and that someone sat and worked with thier hands a very long time to create it.
I found these little beauties today at Ashley Stephens little booth “Ashley’s Attic” at Magnolia Flea Market today.

When I arrived at the clients home I realized that either myself or the artist I worked alongside at Ross Furniture 10 years ago had painted this piece originally. I love what I do! Even if it means revamping something I may have painted in the past.
But let me tell you- when we painted furniture back then…… we painted it to last forever!!! Getting the heavily distressed original paint finish off this piece was quite the task. 😬🤣…. It was rock hard and solid!

I have lived to paint another day…..happy client is all that really matters 🩵
