Under the cover of night, a man named Nicodemus came to Jesus with questions he couldn't ask in public. He was a Pharisee, a teacher of Israel, respected by men and knowledgeable in Scripture. Yet despite all his learning, he sensed something was missing. Standing before him wasn't another rabbi, but the One whom the Scriptures pointed to.
Jesus didn't begin by discussing religious achievement, moral effort, or intellectual understanding. Instead, He went straight to the heart of the matter: "Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3).
Nicodemus came seeking information, but Jesus revealed a deeper need for transformation. Entrance into God's kingdom doesn't come through heritage, status, or good works, but through the regenerating work of God who gives spiritual life to those who are spiritually dead.
This same truth challenges us today. Christianity isn't about becoming a better version of ourselves, but about becoming an entirely new creation through faith in Christ. It isn't something we accomplish “for” God - it's something God accomplishes in us - inviting us to move past mere curiosity and into true spiritual life.
