ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hey! I’m Desoray Kencayd, an independent Canadian artist creating from beautiful British Columbia.

Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up drawing, painting, sewing, making crafts, taking pottery and creative classes, and finding just about any excuse I could to make something with my hands.

That never really stopped.. the materials just multiplied.

After high school, I went on to complete an accelerated college program in 2D animation, where I expanded those creative foundations through life drawing, animation principles, character work and digital art using programs such as Photoshop. That training opened up an entirely new set of tools for me and still influences the way I approach characters, movement, composition and visual storytelling today.

My work has never been limited to one medium. Along with original paintings and drawings, I sculpt, create wearable and miniature artwork, design original characters, and completely transform existing collectibles into new one-of-a-kind pieces.

I love taking an idea that exists only in my imagination.. sometimes strange, sometimes funny, sometimes beautiful — and figure out how to make it real.

Over the years, my original paintings, commissioned works and other handmade pieces have found homes with collectors and customers through private sales, my online shop and local markets.

Nature has also been a huge part of my life and imagination. Growing up in British Columbia gave me a deep love for mountains, trees, orchards, lakes and those places where you can disappear from everything for a while. Those landscapes and feelings still find their way into the worlds I create.

I now live with multiple illnesses that have changed how freely I’m able to physically explore those places. Because of that, art has become even more important to me.

It’s my happy place. It’s my joy. It’s where I feel most completely in my element.

When my body puts limits on where I can go, my imagination doesn’t have to follow them.

Whether I’m painting a landscape, sculpting something unexpected, transforming a collectible, or inventing a group of little robots gathering together to watch the sunset at the end of the day, I love creating artwork with personality, storytelling and small details that give you something new to discover when you look again.

Own it! And every evening, as the Earth begins to cool and the sun sinks behind the mountains, they gather together to watch.

“Sunsets & Robots” is a peaceful little post-apocalyptic scene featuring five of my original robot characters beneath a huge layered sunset sky. Around them stretches a rugged, nearly barren landscape.. but if you look closely, life hasn’t disappeared completely!

Tiny blades of grass are beginning to push their way back through the earth.

And then there’s the butterfly.
One little football-shaped robot has become completely fascinated by it, floating alongside it with his arms stretched out in excitement... playing with it the way a child might chase a butterfly through a field. He isn’t trying to catch it. He’s simply delighted that it’s there.

In a world where living things have become rare, that tiny interaction became one of my favourite parts of the painting.

There’s something I love about all of these little robots gathering together at the end of the day. Their world may have changed completely, but there is still a sunset worth stopping for, a butterfly worth playing with, and new life beginning to grow between the cracks.

Every element of this one-of-a-kind piece was painted entirely by hand in acrylic — from the individually designed robot characters and their tiny details to the textured earth, distant mountains, clouds and glowing sunset sky.

The painting also continues around the sides of the canvas, giving the artwork a finished appearance from edge to edge. With the artists signature living on at the bottom along the edge of the canvas to not distract from the artwork.

“Sunsets & Robots” is the very first painting in a new series featuring these original characters and the unusual world they inhabit.

And their story isn’t finished!

I bet you didn't know Robots LOVE sunsets. Even when the earth is nothing but nature and dust... And everything is returned to the soil. Everything except robots! They gathering it tonight to welcome sundown. When the earth cools. Every night they gather waiting for the few blades of grass and the one or two butterflies left on the planet to regenerate.. life growing again between the cracks of the earth!

This is a peaceful scene, hand painted with acrylic paint. These same robots will be making a second appearance in a painting I am working on now!

This was such a blast to paint I will definitely be making more unique pieces with this kind of vibe!

Is an acrylic on canvas painting. This original artwork features a freak show building with Lydia the tattooed lady hanging out on the edge of the canvas. My painting wraps around the canvas and continues onto the sides. (this is also where you will find my signature). You will notice that the old weathered Bag Toss game was owned by Pogo The Clown, John Wayne Gacy's clown persona. The painting on the side of his game is a replica of the portrait he had painted of himself as Pogo. The featured clown in the center is the caretaker of this clearly abandoned Circus / amusement park. He is accompanied by a skull balloon and his favorite rubber chicken.

About the artist:
This canvas was painted by Desoray Kencayd, I am a Canadian artist. Starting at a young age I was self taught until I went to college. Where I attended 2D animation school in Vancouver BC Canada. Learning life drawing, landscape and so much more. I have graduated many art classes and am on a constant search for new artistic and creative information and ideas. Overcoming an enormously wild childhood I still live in beautiful British Columbia Canada. Running this small business and coping with multiple illnesses.
