Do you remember our very first A Canyon Plein Air?
This homemade sign welcomed the public to our first-ever Meet the Artists event. We closed the street, had a DJ, served refreshments, and crossed our fingers that people would come.
We were making it up as we went along. We had enthusiasm, a handful of artists, a lot of volunteers, and big dreams.
Today, looking back at this sign makes me smile. What started as a small community art event has grown into a tradition that has introduced hundreds of people to the beauty of painting outdoors at Providence Canyon.

A throwback to our very first A Canyon Plein Air! When it came time to judge and display the artwork, we didn't have display panels, easels, or fancy equipment. We had folding chairs. So we lined them up and made it work. What started with a handful of artists, a lot of enthusiasm, and a row of chairs has grown into an event that attracts talented painters from across the region. Looking back, those humble beginnings make us even more proud of how far we've come.
Every tradition starts somewhere. Ours started with chairs.
We're already looking forward to welcoming artists back to Providence Canyon State Park, Lumpkin GA on November 7th!

Every tradition has a beginning. This is the group of artists who helped launch the very first A Canyon Plein Air. We learned a lot that year, laughed a lot, and were reminded how generous and supportive artists can be. We're greatful to everyone of them.
