One of the locations for this year's Salon des Refuses is The Lincoln Gallery. The Lincoln Gallery, 429 N. Lincoln Avenue, has been a long-standing art gallery in Loveland at this location since the mid 1990s. The Thompson Valley Art League, owner of the Lincoln Gallery, has been in Loveland since 1965. Members are juried into the gallery by the board of directors. TVAL participates in many art-related activities in Loveland and sponsors the annual Art in the Park in August. The Salon des Refuses is a fun, collaborative event, in which artists rejected from the Governor’s Art Show at the Loveland Museum are offered an opportunity to display a piece of art at a local location, similar to the Salon des Refuses in Paris in the mid 1800s.

One of our hosts for the Salon des Refuses exhibition and sale is Art of the Rockies. Here's a little about their business.

Art of the Rockies Gallery and Custom Framing, Inc. along with Pat and Norm Toman have been involved with Loveland Rotary and the Governor's Art Show for about 20 years. Our participation in the Salon de Refuse show began through being co-located with the Independence Gallery and Billie Colson, who has at least one new art and gallery marketing idea every 3.2 seconds. The Salon show as it came to her fits the original Salon des Refuse show because of her and many artists being rejected from the Governor's show. We as Art of the Rockies have been pleased to participate in the Show here and tag on her coattails with her many marketing schemes.

Here's a little bit about one of our hosts, Dickens Alley, for the Salon des Refuse show.
The first Dickens Alley opened in 1998 in Glen Haven Colorado. The store was tiny but did quite well so moved it to Loveland in 2001. Don worked out of the store on Hwy 34 in Loveland till 2011 when he moved to the present location at 238 E 4th St in downtown Loveland. Don owner said "I couldn’t be happier being part of downtown Loveland and I never get tired of selling rare books, art & antiques. This is my first year taking part in the Salon des Refuses. I love being surrounded by all the art happenings here in town!". We are glad to have him as part of our show this year. Don also make an excellent cheesecake. :)

We are preparing for the 2016 Salon des Refuses. The invitations went out and we are still seeking galleries to host some of the artwork. The dates of the show are May 2nd through the 30th. There are some amazing artists who participate.

Hey fellow artists, did you get your rejection from the Govorner's Art Show yet? Congrats if you did, you are now eligible for the Salon des Refuses show. Let us know if you would like to participate. This runs concurrent to the GAS so it's a wonderful spin off event.
