New year, same amazing opera theatre! Speaking of amazing, check out this testimony from one of our amazing donors from 2023!

“What an ambitious and amazing production it was.... your Ballad of Baby Doe! Was not aware of the existence of this opera, so it was delightful to be introduced to it right here in Loveland by your ensemble. So special to enjoy this very poignant Colorado story! And so beautifully and perfectly performed by all. What an incredibly talented cast. I doubt it could have been performed any better elsewhere. We were so grateful to be able to see it!

Our community is so blessed to have the Loveland Opera right here in our midst!”

As 2023 comes to a close, Executive Director, Juliana Bishop Hoch, has a message for you!

Happy New Year from Loveland Opera Theatre! We are so thankful for your generous donations, support, and presence at our performances this past year. Your future help is vital to our continued success as a small regional opera company.

In 2023, LOT’s 19th Season was filled to the brim with exciting performances and events featuring All-Colorado casts. We began the year singing for over 3,600 elementary school students in our “Dahlen Educational Outreach Program” with performances of John Davies’ “The Three Little Pigs”. LOT held an art competition for the elementary schools in the Thompson School District in Loveland, CO with the winning artwork used for each page of the set - which was a larger-than-life sized 8’ tall “book” that the singing cast members opened to show the library, the stick house, the straw house, and the brick house as well as a “piggy” end page. The winners were acknowledged at their school’s performance.

In the summer, LOT performed “Broadway Favorites” in concerts at Loveland and Estes Park with six soloists and chorus and piano/string trio accompaniment. These concerts were offered free of charge to the audience as a gift to our Northern Colorado community. A very generous donor sponsored this event.

LOT’s crowning glory event this year was its production of Douglas Moore’s “The Ballad of Baby Doe” performed by an all-star cast in the Rialto Theater in October. We were delighted that so many people from out of state came to see this show. We were very grateful to Colorado College in Colorado Springs for renting us the gorgeous costumes for Baby Doe, Augusta, and Horace Tabor. The audience continues to rave about the excellence and superb quality of this production. “What an incredibly talented cast. I doubt it could have been performed any better elsewhere”. (KC) The world of the 1880s silver rush in Colorado came alive once again as the Rialto’s video wall was used to project photos from Utah Opera of their original gorgeous Ballad of Baby Doe sets.

On 12/16/23 five LOT soloists and our pianist Rachel Carlson, with emcee Gustav Hoyer brought Christmas into the hearts and minds of over 122 people at our “Dreaming of a White Christmas Gala” held at the TPC clubhouse ballroom on the gorgeous property of the new TPC Golf Course. All were thrilled by the majesty of the Colorado mountains, when we saw a gorgeous sunset from the windows of the ballroom when we all sang “White Christmas”. It truly was a magical experience.

Please consider supporting Loveland Opera Theatre at year-end so that we can continue to tell excellent stories through music in Northern Colorado.

May you and yours be blessed with happiness and good health in the New Year.

With sincere thanks,

Juliana Bishop Hoch
Executive and Artistic Director
Loveland Opera Theatre

Meet Nate Snyder! Tenor Nathan Snyder sets himself apart with his energetic performances, commanding stage presence, and attentive musicianship. Praised for his "lovely" portrayal of Fenton in The Merry Wives of Windsor with Loveland Opera Theatre and hailed as "riveting" in his performance of Don Jose in Carmen, Nathan attentively molds the music and characters together every time he takes the stage.

The past season was highlighted by new operas with new companies. Nathan made debut with two companies, singing new modern opera! Beginning with Opera Theater of the Rockies singing Clarence Elkins in Blind Injustice, and with Opera Steamboat singing the Tour de Force role of Miles in Proving Up. Nathan also made his soloist debut with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra singing the Tenor Solo in Carmina Burana and returned a month later to sing for the Sounds of Cinema concert. He also returned to Opera Fort Collins, where his operatic career began, to sing the role of Sam in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah.

Nathan is no stranger to the Loveland Opera Theatre most recently singing the role of Tommy in Brigadoon with Loveland Opera Theatre. A review from Marlowe’s Musings remarked that “Nathan Snyder’s vocals in the role of Tommy Albright are magnificent! His “Almost Like Being in Love,” is worth the price of admission all on its own!” Nathan is currently preparing the role of Young Jim Thompson from Glory Denied by Tom Cipullo which will be performed at the Airforce Academy in April 2024.

It is not uncommon for school to be the only place students are exposed to music. Education of children is near and dear to the heart of Loveland Opera Theatre. "Opera for Kids" programs present shortened versions of our main stage productions which are an ideal introduction to opera for families with young children. We have also partnered with the Thompson school district to present special opera programs for elementary through high school students.

Help us reach our $5,000 goal this Colorado Gives Day, and allow us to continue sharing art with the kiddos in our community. Donate Here: coloradogives.org/organization/lovelandoperatheatre
