Lundeen Sculpture Creating original, life-like bronze sculptures from our Loveland, Colorado studio.

Have you ever wondered whose handprints are imbedded near the Benson Sculpture Garden Pavilion? Wonder no more!

They are the handprints of five Loveland sculptors, George Lundeen, Dan Ostermiller, George Walbye, Fritz White and Hollis Williford who helped foster the idea of a sculpture show in Benson Park, back in 1984!

Take a peek at these local handprints, four of these men are still showing their respective pieces in the annual Sculpture Show!

We are so grateful for the vision these five gentlemen and others, who “got the ball rolling” to establish such a beloved place for so many to enjoy.

Artist and one of the original five, George Walbye, (in the black coat) is explaining the handprints to these visitors.

George talks about the patina on the Stations of the Cross with a customer, showing how we get the dark tones and highlights in these larger-than-life sculptures.

Currently we are working on another set of the Stations of the Cross. The first set is in Gretna, Nebraska at The Cloisters on the Platte, which does allow visitors during certain times.

Featured Art: High Five - Issuu

"Every child deserves to play baseball. That is the mission of Miracle League of Palm Beach County and has always been the goal for League Founders, Julia and Jeff Kadel. This past February, the Miracle League hosted their season-opening game along with an unveiling ceremony for High Five at Gardens Park. As the drape covering the sculptures was removed, happy tears consumed the Kadels as they laid their eyes on High Five for the very first time. "

The Miracle League is a special group that creates accessible baseball fields so all children can experience the joy of playing baseball.

If art could talk, what would it say? Almost every sculpture we create here at Lundeen Studios begins with a live model. Most often, family and friends are roped into the task, and usually photos are taken for later reference. Digging deep in the archives, here is little Eric (son of Cammie and stepson of George) modeling with Jason the dog, for the sculpture that later became "Ukulele Kid". This photo was taken in the late 1980s, as Ukulele Kid was finished and in galleries by 1990.

UNK grad creates new antelope sculpture, 'The Loper,' for campus

“This sculpture will provide an iconic place on our campus for people to gather,” said UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen. “It will inspire some, and others will reflect upon their experiences on campus, but for everyone it will serve as a point of Loper pride.”

Current and future UNK student-athletes will walk past the sculpture on their way from the Health and Sports Center to Cope Stadium.

Amelia Earhart statue now stands in U.S. Capitol - Skies Mag

The monumental sculpture of Amelia Earhart we recently installed in Statuary Hall was commissioned by the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation, and they aren't done yet! A second version of Amelia is set to be installed outside the entrance to the BRAND NEW and state-of-the-art Amelia Earhart Hanger Museum in Atchison, Kansas. It is set to open in 2023.

"...the Museum will immerse visitors in Earhart’s pioneering life, from growing up in Atchison to the height of her worldwide fame. When complete, the Museum will apply to become an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. 'We’re proud to see Earhart’s magnificent statue finally standing in her rightful place in the U.S. Capitol and are looking forward to her ‘twin’ statue welcoming visitors to the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum in her hometown of Atchison, Kansas,' said Seaberg. 'We are committed to Amelia’s enduring legacy that continues to be relevant today and will undoubtedly inspire generations to come.' "

An Amelia Earhart statue joins the U.S. Capitol's Statuary Hall

Amelia Earhart is now installed in Statuary Hall at the United States Capitol, representing the state of Kansas. She is only the eleventh woman to represent a state in Statuary Hall. It was an honor for Lundeen Sculpture, from right here in beautiful Loveland, Colorado, to sculpt such an amazing American hero.

A statue honoring the aviation pioneer is now part of the U.S. Capitol's National Statuary Hall. Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Amelia Earhart Statue Unveiling

After many years, we are thrilled to announce that our monumental sculpture of Amelia Earhart was finally unveiled in Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C. yesterday! Created by Mark and George Lundeen, Amelia is the 11th woman to be represented in Statuary Hall.

"We were fortunate enough to have hundreds and hundreds of pictures of Amelia that we could go through and choose from," said Mark Lundeen. "We tried to pick a nice expression. She had a beautiful smirk on her face. And I think that’s what we’re known for as sculptors, to be able to capture that moment in time, where she looks like she’s ready to talk to you." -Mark Lundeen

You can watch the entire unveiling ceremony via the link below. The actual moment they unveil Amelia is at about the 16 min. mark.

Thanks for sharing our new sculpture A Mighty Girl! Amelia is such a fascinating aviation pioneer! We are so proud to have her in the Capitol after so many years.

A statue of Amelia Earhart was unveiled in the U.S. Capitol today -- making the renowned aviator the 12th woman to be honored in the 100-statue National Statuary Hall Collection! Established in 1864, the collection features two statues from each state, which are selected to honor notable people from each state's history. The new statue of the Earhart, the first female pilot to complete a solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean, represents the state of Kansas. At today's ceremony, Kansas Representative Sharice Davids observed: “You know, female pilots used to be called ‘ladybirds,’ ‘sweethearts of the air,’ and because of Amelia Earhart, back then, now and into the future, women who fly planes are now called ‘pilots.’"

To introduce kids to this trailblazing aviator, we highly recommend the board book "My First Amelia Earhart" for ages 1 to 3 (https://www.amightygirl.com/my-first-amelia-earhart), the picture book "I Am Amelia Earhart" for ages 4 to 8 (https://www.amightygirl.com/i-am-amelia-earhart), and the chapter book "Trailblazers: Amelia Earhart" for ages 7 to 10 (https://www.amightygirl.com/trailblazers-amelia-earhart)

For more books for both children and teens about Amelia Earhart's remarkable life, including "Night Flight," "Sky Pioneer," and "Amelia to Zora", visit our "Amelia Earhart Collection" at https://amgrl.co/2IzZCY7

For two inspiring books about courageous female explorers throughout history, we recommend "Women Explorers: Perils, Pistols, and Petticoats" for ages 7 to 10 (https://www.amightygirl.com/women-explorers) and "The Atlas of Women Explorers" for ages 8 to 13 (https://www.amightygirl.com/the-atlas-of-women-explorers)

For a fascinating book for adult readers about extraordinary female explorers throughout history, we also recommend "The Girl Explorers" at https://www.amightygirl.com/the-girl-explorers

Eight Statues to Be Installed by Capitol Avenue Bronze, Before CFD

“As Cheyenne welcomes tens of thousands of visitors from around the world this week, I am full of pride that these installations will happen before Frontier Days. In less than a year, the face of the Capital City of the Old West is being transformed, because of the generosity of the people of this great city. Having these eight statues installed before Frontier Days will further highlight Cheyenne as one of the most exciting places on the Front Range.”
- Mayor Patrick Collins

Lundeen Sculpture is also full of pride to have so many of our sculptors be a part of the Capitol Avenue Bronze project. "The Aviator", a George Lundeen classic, is being installed this week alongside new work by Joel Turner and Joey Bainer, both sculptors who work with Lundeen Sculpture. These new sculptures are all in good company, with sculptures by Robin Laws, Joshua Tobey and Tim Cherry also being installed this week.

Legendary Western art exhibit opens in Holdrege

If you happen to be in Nebraska this summer, a new show is now open in the hometown of the Lundeens, at the Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege, Nebraska. "Palette of the Prairie: A History of the American West in Art" pairs the work of legendary artists like Frederic Re*****on, Charles Russell, and Albert Bierstadt with local Nebraska artists like our very own George Lundeen.

See the article for more information about the show.

The Nebraska Prairie Museum is located at 2701 N. Burlington Ave. in Holdrege, and is open weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. on weekends. “Palette of the Prairie: A History of the American West in Art” is free as well as admission to the museum, but donations are accepted.

The pieces are selections from the collection of David Wendell, a historian whose family roots trace back more than a century and a half in Nebraska history.

Dr. Sally Ride honored with statue at Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City

This weekend we were honored to place our Sally Ride sculpture at the Cradle of Aviation museum . Having our first finished sculpture of this destroyed in the January fire and with the short deadline to recreate and complete the sculpture in time, my thanks go out out to my fellow sculptors, brother Mark and good friend Joey Bainer. These two, along with our team, not only remade the sculpture on time, but produced it better than the first.
As usual, I lucked out again, by having so many incredible folks able to pick up the pieces and bring us across the finish line.
Our friend and project manager Steven Barber who began the project, raised the funds and made sure the project had a home. A special thanks to him and his production company Vanilla Fire.

As we celebrate Pride Month, we take you to Long Island where the first astronaut known to be part of the LGBT community is honored with a statue.

It is always a long process to create a monumental sculpture like this one of Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. Today she is being unveiled at her new home, The Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, NY. This particular sculpture was even more of a process as we had a studio fire back in January on the very night Sally had been completed in clay. That first version melted and a second version had to be created, and of course we had to make it even better than the first. What do you think?

Today we are unveiling a monumental sculpture of the late Dr. Sally Ride at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in New York.

This sculpture of Dr. Sally Ride is unique among public monuments as less than 8% of statues in the U.S. depict women. Less than 8%!

One of the reasons Lundeen Sculpture was so excited to work on this project was to help change that number, and show young women everywhere they are capable of amazing feats, just like Dr. Sally Ride, and that the accomplishments pf women are worthy of timeless monuments too.

Before the sculpture of Sally Ride was sent to New York, we invited a few young friends to the studio to show them the finished sculpture and give them a brand new Sally Ride quarter.

This sculpture of Sally Ride will now be on display for all to enjoy at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, New York.
