"Director Kathy Preher Reynolds and the cast dug deep to find the meaning in the characters’ words and actions. With a lesser cast, this concept could have gone terribly wrong, but they quite professionally brought each character to life....Their performances reminded [me] of a quote from the TV character Ted Lasso about meeting friends’ moms, “It’s like reading an instruction manual as to why they’re nuts.” It was a very clear instruction manual, indeed."

Sharon Murray Harrah is directing for The Bunbury Theatre, the world premiere musical TANGLED WEBBS, with book and lyrics by Gary Brumburgh, and music by Ron Creager.


Auditions for TANGLED WEBBS

It runs JUNE 14-16, 20-23 & 27-30

We are holding open auditions on January 8th & 9th, 2024 from 6-9pm at the Henry Clay Theater, 604 South 3rd Street, Louisville, KY. The theater is on the 3rd Floor, Please prepare 32 bars of your best and be prepared to read. Bring sheet music in correct key and head shot and resume. Accompanist provided. Rehearsals start late April 2024.

SYNOPSIS for TANGLED WEBBS

TANGLED WEBBS is a zany, cheeky, light-hearted musical parody of daytime soap operas back in their early TV prime when every channel at noon sported a daytime drama. Set in the innocent 'Camelot' summer year of 1963, the story takes
place in a conservative, fictional town called Willowcrest, located in Anywhere, USA. The ever- entwining saga centers around the upstanding, much-admired Webb family ... their friends, their foes, their fate.

Major subplots include a love triangle, mistaken identities, acute marriage problems, near-death operations, alcoholism, workaholism, drug abuse, long-term amnesia, abandoned babies, and a murder whodunnit pushed to their comical, sometimes politically irreverent 1960s limits. These subplots are all “untangled” by the end, but is it happily EVER after or happily NEVER after for each of our prime characters?

On stage again Thursday night!

In a rural bar in Ireland, four local men seek camaraderie inside on a windy night. They find themselves sharing stories with Valerie, a woman recently arrived from Dublin. The stories begin as curious bits of local lore tinged by the supernatural but grow increasingly personal, an acknowledgement of all in their lives that defies rational explanation.

Staged by Bunbury Theatre, The Weir runs Thursday, October 19-Sunday, October 22 and again Wednesday, October 25-Saturday, October 28 in the Henry Clay, 604 S Third St - where Chestnut crosses Third. Wednesday-Saturday performances at 7:30. Sunday Matinee Oct 22 is at 2 pm.

Written by Olivier award winning Tony award nominated playwright Conor McPherson who is currently Sr Associate at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin. The Weir has been staged the world over.

Within the program of Bunbury Theatre’s current production "The Weir", is the following backstory by Bunbury Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, John Campbell Finnegan, who wrote: "In the spring of 1998, during a layover in London, I saw The Weir. For an hour and I half, I sat and watched, mesmerized as these storytellers plied their craft. At the end, the entire audience sat stunned. This is a play that stuck with me. The Weir has always had a spooky vibe and I wanted it to be a spooky season/ Samhain production. So, twenty-six years from seeing the London production, I get my wish and I get to share it with you!"
Written by Olivier award winning Tony Award nominated playwright Conor McPherson (who is currently Sr. Associate at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin), "The Weir" has been staged the world over. "Director J. Barrett Cooper is no stranger to The Bunbury Theatre nor Irish literature, "Finnegan continued, "and he has assembled a wonderful cast to tell the stories of the Ireland of old as it moves to the Ireland of today."
Amongst the Director notes in the Bunbury program, J. Barrett Cooper commented: "The ‘Ghosts’ in this play come out of loss, loneliness (either forced or self-inflicted), and isolation (sometimes chosen, sometimes cultural and geographic). But in a larger sense this play is about Love in all its many forms and facets. Our ‘Ghosts’ are not always in the form of spectral figures, and the supernatural. We are haunted by our choices and the loss of love."
Cooper concluded: "Conor McPherson has woven a beautiful story of these lost, lonely and isolated people in a way that only an Irishman can."
On the night the Arts Insider attended a performance, rather than be swayed by reading anything by Finnegan or Cooper in the program notes prior to the start of the performance, I delayed reading their remarks until returning home. I’m glad I did. For I too had found myself "mesmerized" as each character revealed a ‘haunting’ in their lives, and was also deeply moved, being able to relate i.e. to the "’Ghosts’ (in this play) that come out of loss…loneliness."
Additionally, the Arts Insider was particularly struck by something else…something (which I credit to Cooper’s staging, *excellent casting skills, and the playwright’s talent), and which I felt moved to share with Finnegan, who I spoke with in the lobby at the end of the evening.
‘I'd found myself so completely fascinated by the intimate, albeit not intentionally ‘spooky’ way McPherson had each character express their ‘haunting’…so drawn in by Cooper’s directing, and by the matter-of-fact and not overly dramatic delivery of the gut wrenching stories spoken one by one by the five actors (a heartfelt 'Bravo!' to every single member of the cast- especially to Brian Hinds in his role as the confirmed (but lonely) bachelor 'Jack', and to Marci Miller, for her achingly honest portrayal of the heartbroken mother 'Valerie')' I expressed, ‘that by the time the final of the five actors had taken his or her turn, I felt like a sixth person in ‘the bar’ that night, and whose turn it now was to share a ‘haunting’ of my own.'
Job exceedingly well done by everyone connected with this production.

Bunbury Theatre Company will hold auditions for their holiday show, “The Butterfingers Angel, Mary and Joseph, Herod the Nut, and 12 Slaughtered Hit Carols in a Pear Tree” on Tuesday, August 22 at 7:00 PM in the Theatre at the Henry Clay, 604 S. Third Street, 3rd floor.

Rehearsals will begin the week of October 22.
There will be rehearsals during Thanksgiving week, except for the holiday itself.
The show will run for three weekends, beginning December 1.

Roles are available for men and women from late teens upwards. Some parts require movement skills.

Please send a PM to the director, Barbara O'Daniel-Munger, noting your intention to attend. We will be doing cold readings from the script.
