I love taking the train down to NYC. It gives me a nice chunk of time to paint. A bit of a bumpy ride so not great for painting details. I pulled out my Art Toolkit and palettes (one filled with watercolor and one with gouache). I love my Art Toolkit and these little palettes are so handy! I feel like I’ve finally got my travel setup refined.

I’ve been obsessed with flower people lately! I think I might do a series of these.

Congratulations Kathy!! I’m so excited to celebrate with you!

Hello everyone! Here’s a quick overview of my 3x3s for the annual 3x3 exhibition and fundraiser by Arlene’s Artist Materials. This year’s beneficiary is the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council. I love participating in this exhibition! I collaged some gel prints and painted them with acrylics. I used glazing and the mother color technique to help harmonize the colors.

Thanks for watching! If you’re local, be sure to check out this exhibit. Go early if you want to ensure you get the pieces you want!

This is going to be super cool! 👏👏👏

🎨 CALL FOR ART: Room of Wonders — A Contemporary Cabinet of Curiosities

The R Gallery at Arlene’s is excited to announce the Call for Art for Room of Wonders: A Contemporary Cabinet of Curiosities, a juried group exhibition inspired by the historical Wunderkammer. This show will transform the gallery into a modern space of marvels, mysteries, and unexpected connections — and we want to see what you create.

We’re seeking artwork that evokes curiosity, wonder, strangeness, or discovery. Artists may respond to one or more classic Cabinet of Curiosities categories:

🌳 Naturalia — nature, organic forms, ecology
🎨 Artificialia — crafted or altered objects
🌎 Exotica — cultural hybridity, unfamiliarity
🔬 Scientifica — observation, measurement, experimentation
🤩 Mirabilia — the marvelous, uncanny, extraordinary

All interpretations are welcome — literal, conceptual, or experimental — and all media are encouraged. Open to artists 18+ working in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, photography, assemblage, mixed media, digital art, and small installations.

We can’t wait to see the wonders you bring to life.

What an amazing day at the Athens Cultural Center! I led Family Studio hour in the AM where we painted our spirit animals. In the afternoon we held a Charcoal Portraits on the Gel Plate workshop. This one is always a hit! So many creative and expressive paintings! 🥰 Thank you Sara for having me and thanks to everyone who came out to join me! ❤️

Day 100 of my . I did it!!!!! Today’s piece is an experiment with layering Derwent tinted charcoal XL/ pencils and Graphitint blocks/ pencils on hot press watercolor paper by New York Central. I thought I’d end the series with a self-portrait. It did NOT go as planned!

Thank you all so much for joining me on this journey!
