In 1947, Ukrainian artist Maria Prymachenko painted Blue Bull — a mysterious creature covered in stars, with flowers beneath its feet and a golden crown between its horns.
Prymachenko was a self-taught artist from the small Ukrainian village of Bolotnia. Her fantastic animals were born from folk tales, nature, dreams, and her extraordinary imagination. They belonged to a magical universe where every color, flower, and creature seemed to carry its own spirit.
The Blue Bull appears powerful, but not threatening. Its enormous body is filled with stars, as if it carries an entire universe within itself. Its crown transforms it from an ordinary animal into a mythical guardian — proud, peaceful, and full of quiet strength.
Created shortly after World War II, the painting can also be seen as an image of resilience: a fantastic creature emerging from darkness, still alive, still beautiful, and still capable of dreaming.
Almost eight decades later, Maria Prymachenko’s Blue Bull stepped beyond the frame. Inspired by her painting, Ukrainian artists, engineers, and the Kurenivka community brought this creature to life as a monumental mutant vehicle — carrying Ukrainian imagination, music, and freedom into the desert.
The painting was small enough to hold in your hands.
The dream inside it was big enough to cross the world.
