Met in the mid 80’s during a winter break from living in India, he lived a couple doors down from the Sikh ashram over near pico and robertson, my mom lived a block and half away and if anyone knows that neighborhood it’s very deep with American 🇺🇸 sikh’s !!
I had started skateboarding in India so I was skating a red curb in front of his house, he didn’t judge me for sporting my turban and we hung out a good amount that winter, skateboarding and listening to metal then I went back to boarding school in India 🇮🇳 and eventually got kicked out for a myriad of reasons and was sent back to the states!!
I then went to school in Albuquerque, New Mexico and after a half a year there I was asked not to come back, so I ended up in Los Angeles, living with my mom and me and access started, kicking it a lot skating, and at this point he had gotten into graffiti and had introduced the idea to me that I should grab a name and start tagging, I had already tried to emulate graffiti when I was in India and had chose the name radical rie,
So my first tag in the states was derelict, then I think I chose the name ANGER , might’ve switched it to skorch for a second and then back to anger.
Being new to Los Angeles I didn’t have a lot of friends and Axis introduced me to all of his junior high buddies. We hung out a lot in Westwood. Eventually we met other neighborhood skateboarders that were also getting into graffiti and we created our own little posse that would hang out and chill in the pico and Robertson area.
If you’ve ever scoped out the original version of some of this storyline is in that documentary, but what they don’t cover in that documentary is the 40 year friendship that I’ve been able to share with my brother Axis. I love this guy through thick and thin, and I’m lucky to have not been judged by him for being a weird skater dude with a turban on. I appreciate you and the friendship that we’ve had over these last four decades means the world to me I just wanted to tell you that and anybody else that has a good friend to cherish them and as they say, give them their flowers when you can.
