Ruston Louisiana!!!! KINGS OF HARLEM Written, directed and choreographed by Layon Gray, will play the Dixie Center for the Arts on February 7th!!!

Inspired by the 1939 Harlem Rens basketball team, this play tells the story of seven black men who faced adversity and discrimination while achieving over 2,000 victories during their barnstorming tours throughout segregated parts of the country in the 1930s.

Despite never receiving official recognition or societal acceptance, the Harlem Renaissance Big Five proved to be one of the most successful all-Black professional basketball teams, bringing a unique grace and style to the sport and even winning the FIRST integrated world championship.

The play has received numerous accolades, including awards for Best Play, Best Ensemble, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Actor.

Exciting News!!! Kings Of Harlem , written, directed, and choreographed by Layon Gray, based on the inspiring true story of the 1939 Harlem Rens basketball team, will be taking center stage at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in New Port News, Virginia on October 30th!!!!!
This riveting play follows the journey of seven black men who defied all odds and racked up an incredible 2,000 wins while touring segregated parts of the country during the 1930s. Despite facing discrimination and never being recognized as professionals or socially accepted, the Rens used their basketball skills to challenge white opponents on equal ground. Their astounding winning streak of 88 games in a row remains a legendary feat in basketball history.
In the midst of the Harlem Renaissance, the Harlem Rens brought a touch of sophistication and style to their sport. They broke through barriers and opened doors for generations to come, forming five years before the renowned Harlem Globetrotters.
This production transforms Ferguson Center For The Arts into a basketball court for an immersive experience.

Today marks the closing night of Kings of Harlem in Wilmington Delaware. The story of the Harlem Rens. It has been an incredible 6 weeks journey full of joyous laughter, heartbreaking tears, remarkable celebration, and honoring this hidden black story. Six black men from Harlem overcame the Great Depression and became the first ever (World/NBA) Champions in 1939 and would create the fast paced basketball game we see today.
