My latest commission was to create the portrait in the style of the 1900's romantic realism. Oil on linen, 50x34.
Me and a photographer friend, Kim Canazzi who is also a stylist and designer gathered some vintage clothing and she created a beautiful lace top to compliment the outfit. Since the model is a ballerina it was easy to get such a graceful pose. Her husband took some photos during the sitting too and ultimately I used one he had taken. Normally as a rule I use my own photography to work from if we can't do a live sitting. Due to the pandemic we couldn't stage the background so I completely made up the entire environment she is sitting in, creating the composition, the color palette, the patterns, etc. My clients let me completely do my thing. Didn't impose any thoughts or ideas except they wanted the 19th century look. I was free to create! What a fabulous commission. To view more of my work/request a commission www.artbydonatelli.com.
