WHAT WE CARRY The effect is that each doc gives the viewer a powerful burst of first person narrative and memory.

WHAT WE CARRY boldly documents four Holocaust survivors’ unique stories through a riveting format that creates an immediate emotional intimacy so truth can live on, questions can be asked, and history cannot be rewritten. The concept for the project is the idea of what one would carry when faced with genocide; what the survivors are left with after so much has been taken from them; and what they carry from the experience... the trauma, the deep wounds, the loss and the courage, the strength, the hope. The elements - a survivor’s suitcase filled with visual aids that represent powerful milestones of each survivor's story; an informed volunteer speaker with knowledge of the survivor’s life; and an intimate documentary of each survivor - create a moving presentation that rivets viewers and provides them a personal window into the devastating effects of the Holocaust that live on today. Short documentary films of each survivor are broken up into 2-3 minute segments to address short attention while keeping audiences riveted to the evocative story unfolded before them. The volunteer can stop and start the program to engage the audience throughout with an examination of items from the suitcases. It is interactive, thought provoking and educational yet, the heart of it is the simplicity of the first person sharing.

We have returned from an extraordinary and sobering trip to Israel where we presented "What We Carry" at Yad Vashem's 9th Int'l Conference on Education. WWC was beautifully received and we garnered lots of interest. I will be posting photos and such this weekend for all to see. Delay due to jet lag!

WHAT WE CARRY is headed to the NInth International Educator's Conference at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, Israel. We will be presenting our program to Holocaust Educators from around the world. We're very excited and grateful. We'll keep you posted on how it goes!
