🇪🇹 In Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, these young stilt walkers have turned an unusual skill into a cultural tradition and a tourist attraction.

According to a local guide, the practice originally began during the wet season, helping people move through muddy fields without getting soaked. Over time, it became associated with their community, with these children becoming well known for their impressive balance and skill.

Today, stilt walking is also a source of income for the village as visitors passing through the Omo Valley stop to watch them perform. 🌍

🇳🇬 Nigerian-born poet Daniel Umemezie [Daniel Umemezie] has been named the 2026–2027 U.S. National Youth Poet Laureate at just 18.

Born and raised in Nigeria before moving to Iowa at 13, Daniel’s poetry explores his Nigerian heritage, identity, family and what it means to grow up between two cultures.

He becomes the 10th young poet to hold the national title and the first person from Iowa to receive the honour. 👏🏿

From finding his voice in Iowa’s youth poetry scene to taking his work to audiences across the United States, Daniel is bringing his story and heritage to a much bigger stage. 🇳🇬🌎

Somali asylum seeker Adam Abdullah has been sent to the US detention facility at Guantánamo Bay after being arrested by ICE in Minnesota last December.

Abdullah, who arrived in the US in 2023, had a valid work permit and was working as an auto mechanic. He says he believed he was being deported to Somalia when officials instead took him to Cuba, where he was transferred to Camp Six.

He says he is among eight Somali detainees being held at Guantánamo.

Nollywood veteran Olu Jacobs has died at the age of 84. 🕊️

The actor, whose career spanned theatre, British television, international films and Nigerian cinema, was one of the most respected figures in the industry.

His family announced his passing on Wednesday, September 16, describing him as “The Lion of Lufodo” and asking the public to respect the family’s privacy as they mourn.

Olu Jacobs leaves behind a remarkable legacy that shaped generations of African film and theatre. ❤️

Nollywood is making its way above 30,000 feet. ✈️🎬

Nigerian films are now available on the in-flight entertainment systems of airlines including Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, United Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, KLM, RwandAir and others.

Son of Iron, for example, appears on four airlines, while titles like Behind the Scenes, Unclaimed, Oversabi, Osamede and Onobiren are also reaching passengers on international flights.

It’s another sign of how Nigerian stories continue to travel far beyond home. 🇳🇬🌍
