Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Author/TV Personality Luis I. Reyes. Seen on Turner Classic Movies and featured in the LA Times. Mr. Reyes will discuss his latest book "Viva Hollywood!" which celebrates the legacy of Latin and Hispanic artists in the Hollywood film industry. Mr. Reyes presents the achievements of Latin film artists from the present day (Jennifer Lopez, Pedro Pascal, Salma Hayek, Edward James Olmos, Jenna Ortega, Gina Rodriguez) back to the founding of the film industry in Hollywood.

Join us as we explore our Chicanidad! Celebrate the vibrant culture and talent of the Chicanx community, sponsors Operation Street Kidz and Samantha Nieves gather together Chicanx voices to present their work. The event features short plays by Maria Martinez, directed by Jacqueline Guido, El Camino del Jardinero by Miguel Angel Lopez, excerpts from Electricidad by Luis Alfaro and performed by Julia Chavez. Professor Robert Cristo will share his presentation, The Chicano Movement: Vive y Sigue. Monologue by Valerie Vega and poetry by Samantha Nieves. Vibiana Aparicio Chamberlin will round out this wonderful celebration.

"Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis on Friday, July 26, hosted an unveiling of the missing panels for Richard Haro’s 'Among the Valiant' mural. The artwork sits inside the community center at Ruben F. Salazar Park and pays homage to local veterans from East Los Angeles. Actor Edward James Olmos emceed the event."

From 2006 to 2009, seniors raised funds and solicited photos so that Richard Haro’s “Among the Valiant” mural could could honor local veterans.
