Three Mocktail Cheers to Three Years California Sober 💫
3 years ago I was drowning. I had spent a decade as an extremely high functioning addict & if I didn’t make that decision to drastically change my life the way i did, I truly don’t think I would be here right now. To everyone who was supportive and to everyone who helped me, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I’m so happy that as a society, we’re all moving in the direction of embracing the awkwardness that clarity can sometimes bring.
Getting sober was like reintroducing myself to everyone in my life.
I learned who i could have fun with, without social lubricant.
Then questioned why we all needed social lubricant.
I learned how incredibly uncomfortable dating sober was.
Then questioned why dating is so uncomfortable for all of us.
I learned so much about myself and i learned about how i want to dedicate my time.
I counted how many days of my life were wasted because i was hungover or slept all day.
I understood that I had a bad habit of crediting alcohol with a lot of the amazing experiences & success in my life, because ‘the party was important’ & we were good at it, but then realized that most of those experiences i will never fully remember.
As someone who has always fought tooth & nail to remain myself in a room full of people telling me to be something different, it’s ironic how little i really knew myself in the first place. I’ve spent years of my life standing in my own way, so I hope all of us will eventually get the f**k out of our own ways, because none of us really know what we’re capable of until we do.
And we’re all so goddamn capable ♥️
