This is my friend, Angela McCluskey. I don't know the particulars, but Angela's in a health battle right now that appears to be very serious. Angela is one of my all-time favorite human beings. When I moved to LA in March of 1991, I was hanging at Heather Fairfield's apartment with Greg Dulli, Traci Lind, and Kris (Punks) Thomson, when Traci said, "Let's hop in my car and go see this incredible Scottish woman sing at the Celtic Arts Center."
The Scottish woman (Angela) blew my mind. From Billie Holiday and Leonard Cohen covers, to original songs she performed with her long-time partner and music collaborator Paul Cantelon, I heard the finest and most unique singer I'd ever experienced.
We became friends. Based out of the Carlotta, Angela was the Queen of our Franklin Avenue scene. Her band with Paul, the Wild Colonials, were signed to Geffen after a bidding war sparked by the. popularity of their residency at Largo. Love to Paul Boyd and everyone else from that time. Later, Angela and Paul Cantelon moved to New York where they stayed at the pad I had with Jesse Peretz on Canal Street in Tribeca. Our lives and circles were wide but always joined. I don't know the particulars, but I ask all my friends on Facebook to spare a thought for this amazing Glaswegian chanteuse. w/ Jesse Peretz, Brendan O'Shea, Karina Logue, Paul Boyd, Oberon Sinclair, Brad Simpson, Paul Cantelon, Melanie Hughes, Lily Haydn, and a zillion others.
