Hoy estuve ensayando en el Teatro Real el Concierto de Aranjuez con su Orquesta Titular y el maestro Gustavo Gimeno.
Contaba el maestro Rodrigo que, en cierta ocasión, un periodista le preguntó por qué nunca había compuesto música flamenca. Él, sorprendido, le respondió algo así como: «¿Cómo que no? ¡Ahí está el Concierto de Aranjuez!».
Yo vengo de ese flamenco que el propio Rodrigo reconocía en su Concierto de Aranjuez. Tocarlo con una orquesta es, para mí, como volver a casa por otro camino.
Mañana ponemos rumbo a Estados Unidos con la gira Fire · Guitar · Legend. Nuestra primera parada será Nueva York. Y allá voy, con la misma ilusión que cuando empezaba a tocar la guitarra. Como si el tiempo no hubiera pasado.
Today I was rehearsing the Concierto de Aranjuez at the Teatro Real with its resident orchestra, under the baton of Gustavo Gimeno.
Rodrigo once recalled that a journalist asked him why he had never written flamenco music. Surprised by the question, he replied something along the lines of: “What do you mean? The Concierto de Aranjuez is right there!”
I come from that same flamenco tradition that Rodrigo himself recognized in his Concierto de Aranjuez. For me, playing it with an orchestra feels like coming home by another road.
Tomorrow we set off for the United States with the Fire · Guitar · Legend tour. First stop: New York.
And off I go, with the same excitement I felt when I first began playing the guitar. As if no time had passed at all.
今日はマドリード王立劇場で、同劇場のオーケストラ、そしてグスターボ・ヒメノ指揮のもと、《アランフェス協奏曲》のリハーサルでした。
かつてロドリーゴは、ある記者から「なぜフラメンコの音楽を作曲しなかったのですか」と尋ねられたことがあったそうです。驚いたロドリーゴは、「何を言っているんだ。《アランフェス協奏曲》があるじゃないか」といった趣旨の言葉を返したといいます。
私自身も、そのロドリーゴが《アランフェス協奏曲》の中に認めていたフラメンコの世界に音楽的なルーツを持ちます。この作品をオーケストラとともに演奏することは、私にとって、別の道を通って自分の家へ帰ってくるような感覚があります。
明日からは《Fire · Guitar · Legend》ツアーでアメリカへ。最初の地はニューヨークです。
ギターを弾き始めた頃と変わらない新鮮な気持ちで、また新しい旅へ。長い年月を重ねても、ギターを手にすると、まるであの頃から時間が経っていないかのようです。
