Two brothers accused of involvement in a Smith County dog fighting ring appeared in court in Tyler, Texas. Kerry Jones, 34, and Michael Cameron Jones, 31, face charges of cruelty to non-livestock animals and dog fighting. Both remained in the Smith County Jail with combined bonds exceeding $1 million.

According to an arrest affidavit, law enforcement and animal control officers observed several malnourished dogs locked in cages. Many reportedly had fresh injuries, visible blood and scars allegedly consistent with fighting. A search warrant executed at Kerry Jones’ property uncovered nearly 60 pit bull-type dogs with various injuries. Michael Jones identified himself to authorities as a co-owner of the property.

Authorities also reported finding three treadmills altered for dogs, two bite sticks with bite marks, weighted collars, empty medicine vials, syringes, tranquilizers and a building resembling a fighting arena. The rescued dogs remain evidence and cannot currently be adopted, while many require medical care.

In Destin, Florida, an 86-year-old woman disappeared during a short walk with her family’s dog, Eeyore. When she failed to return home, her husband contacted the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Devon Miller searched the dark neighborhood and spotted Eeyore standing in the road with his leash trailing behind him. The dog approached the patrol car and then led Deputy Miller away from the road toward a sidewalk.

There, she found the missing woman injured, alert and unable to stand or call for help. Bodycam footage captured Eeyore bringing the deputy directly to her.

Eeyore was not a trained search dog. He was a family dog who recognized that his grandma was in danger, found help and guided it back.

Lucca completed more than 400 combat missions and sacrificed a leg while helping save lives. The military working dog served alongside the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq and Afghanistan, where she used her exceptional training to detect hidden explosives and protect allied troops from deadly threats.

During a mission in Afghanistan, Lucca discovered an improvised explosive device. After locating the danger, a second device exploded beneath her, causing severe injuries. Her handler quickly provided emergency assistance, but veterinarians were ultimately required to amputate one of her legs.

Despite the life-changing injury, Lucca recovered and continued to demonstrate remarkable resilience. Her work during hundreds of combat missions helped protect service members and ensured that no troops under her patrol were killed by explosives.

In recognition of her courage, sacrifice and dedicated service, Lucca received one of the highest honors awarded to military animals. Her story remains a powerful example of bravery, loyalty and selfless service.
