We woke up on Sunday and said what do you want to do? I don’t know, let’s go to Canada. Do we did. It was unspeakably beautiful and in the little town of Nelson —-between the size of Kingman and Hutchinson, Kansas, my last two “home towns” —in British Columbia we found some outstanding cocktails in a witch-themed pub called Black Cauldron. I had the smoked rum cocktail called the Curse of Calipso in a surprising sort of tiki subtheme. We then went on to a delectable dinner at a place call Sage. We also decided that the CBN Olympic coverage was more vibrant than NBC and the commercials were more entertaining. So we enjoyed Canada.

I’ve been getting to perform magic at our Northwest Passages events in Spokane. It’s been a blast. Last week, with Dean Koontz, I did sideshow-themed magic for his book “The Friend of the Family,” a novel about a sideshow performer with magical powers.

I love seeing the Spellbinder get his due. Again. Met Walter and his wife at
Tjw IBM - International Brotherhood of Magicians Con in Houston last summer. Great magicians and delightful people. And if you’re in Chicago be sure and hit Chicago Magic Lounge.

After more than 40 years as a magician, Walter King Jr. went viral on social media this year. His new show, "Diary of a Black Illusionist," is drawing more diverse crowds to magic shows.

My first Spokane show was at the top of the Tower of the Spokesman-Review newspaper office. Thanks to Rob Curley and Johnny Curley for lighting and staging. It was a cool night.

And if you’re trying to plan a party where people get off of their phones and actually talk to each other, including a magic show will get the job done.”

According to TikTok, they’re a must-have at parties right now. But we should unpack why, for a while, society seemed to forget that watching a card disappear is actually awesome.

Had a blast performing at Americare Hilltop Manor in Cunningham, Kansas. In addition to the residence we got a surprise visit from students at the local elementary school. I get such a rush out of doing magic and the smiles I get to bring to people’s faces. It’s a blessing.

I’m thrilled to be presenting my journey in magic at Talk20 Hutch this Friday night. We’ll have at least one surprise ready.

Presenting at Talk20 Hutch - 22nd Edition on July 25 will be Ron Sylvester on "Making Magic."

Ron Sylvester has been performing around Hutchinson, Wichita, and across the state of Kansas, bringing his "Dad Magic" comedy magic show to adults and families. Without fail, he hears one question: how did you get started as a magician? Ron will explain his personal journey in one of the world's oldest and most misunderstood performing arts.
