SFC Aaron A. Grider from Illinois, served with A Company 1st Ranger Battalion -

Sgt. 1st Class Ronald A. "Aaron" Grider died Saturday on his 30th birthday after being hit by machine gun fire during combat in the Kunduz province of Afghanistan, officials with the U.S. Department of Defense said.

His is a story of unbelievable courage, bravery, and dedication. It was his ninth military deployment overseas. He went seven times to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan.

Sgt. 1st Class Ronald "Aaron" Grider, 30, was assigned to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, N.C.

"He was just loved by everybody," said his stepmother, Virginia Grider. "We miss him."

Grider was just married in March to Brittany Reed. They lived in North Carolina. Grider had a 4-year-old daughter from his first marriage.

Grider's uncle, Ned Thompson of Bunker Hill, said Grider was "a beautiful kid who loved his country.

"He knew what the risks were and was willing to die to help us out," said Thompson, 61. "It's just amazing. It doesn't even strike home until it gets this close."

Grider's wife was in North Carolina on Monday night to see his casket es**rted from the plane.

Grider was born in Alton. He graduated from Civic Memorial High School, where he had been involved in cross country and track, and wrestled a few years, Thompson said.

"He was a real physical fitness nut as far as biking and staying in shape," Thompson said. "He was even voted the "best-built" boy of the school."

R.I.P. Solider

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Jake Larson, one of the last D-Day veteran who became beloved social media star known as "Papa Jake,". He passed away at the age of 102. With his death, another sacred thread connecting us to D-Day has quietly slipped into history.

On June 6, 1944, Jake was among the young men who stormed Omaha Beach, stepping into gunfire, chaos, and terror so the world might step closer to freedom. He survived a day when survival itself felt impossible, when courage was measured not in words, but in footsteps taken forward under fire.

In his later years, a new generation came to know him as "Papa Jake," a gentle voice on TikTok, where millions followed along as his granddaughter shared his memories, humor, and hard-earned wisdom. He never sought praise. He never called himself a hero. He only said he was lucky, lucky to have lived when so many of his brothers did not. But history knows better. Jake Larson carried the weight of that beach for decades, honoring the fallen simply by remembering them. With his passing, the echoes of D-Day grow quieter, and the responsibility to remember now rests with us.

20-year-old Sgt. Declan J. Coady died in the line of duty after an Iranian strike hit a U.S. facility in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait on March 1, 2026. He served in the Army Reserve since 2023. Sgt. Coady served with the 103rd Sustainment Command, a unit responsible for providing food, fuel, water, ammunition, transportation equipment, and supplies. Five other U.S. service members also lost their lives in the strike in Kuwait.

Sgt. Coady was born in West Des Moines, lowa. He was a sophomore pursuing an Information Technology undergraduate degree at Drake University. In a statement with the Associated Press, his father Andrew Coady said his son told him last week he had been recommended for a promotion from specialist to sergeant, a rank he received posthumously. With tears in her eyes, his sister Keira Coady said, "It's just really hard... I just really wish I got to tell him I love him one more time because he was just so amazing and kind."

Sgt. Coady was also an Eagle Scout with Troop 242. And for his Eagle Scout project, he decided to help others by serving the lowa Homeless Youth Centers. A confirmed GoFundMe page was created by Sgt.

Coady's aunt, Marianne Crandall, to support the Coady family during this difficult time.

In a statement, Marianne said, "Declan was more than a soldier. He was a son, a family member, a friend, and a light in the lives of those who knew him. He served his country with honor, courage, and dedication, embodying the very best of what it means to wear the uniform." Please pray for the Coady family. Sgt. Coady, you did all you could do.

🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸 Roscoe Robinson Jr. did not inherit opportunity. He forced it open.

In 1947, he entered the United States Military Academy at West Point. Out of 600 cadets, only 5 were Black. The pressure was constant. The scrutiny relentless. Failure would not just be personal. It would be amplified.

He graduated.

Then came Korea.

As commander of Company C, 1st Battalion, 31st Infantry, he led between 175 and 240 soldiers in repeated combat operations. The fighting was brutal. Terrain unforgiving.

Leadership meant standing where the fire was heaviest.

He proved himself under it.

Vietnam followed. More responsibility. More command. In 1976, he became the first Black officer to command the 82nd Airborne Division. That was not symbolic. That was combat power under his authority.

In 1982, he reached 4 stars.

The first Black four star general in U.S. Army history.

He served as the U.S. Military Representative to NATO's Military Committee until retiring in 1985.

He died in 1993 at 64.

But his impact did not.

West Point named an auditorium in his honor.

Fort Bragg named a health clinic after him.

More importantly, doors that were once sealed opened wider for those behind him.

He did not shout about barriers.

He broke them.
And he did it in uniform.

A US Marine Corps veteran and Iraq War veteran, identified as 44-year-old Brian McGinnis, was arrested at the Capitol on March 4th after disrupting a Senate hearing.

McGinnis stood up during the proceedings and shouted, "America does not want to send its sons and daughters to war for Israel!" He also called out, "No one wants to fight for Israel," and "Israel is the reason for this war".

Police reports indicate he physically resisted officers as they attempted to es**rt him from the chamber, and his arm was injured during the removal. He now faces charges including assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, with court proceedings pending.
