When she walked into a cafƩ in the Philippines in 2016, she had no idea what he looked like. The two had met through a dating website where men from around the world connected with Asian women. Jackie arrived without knowing what to expect.
Then she saw himā€”a man from Oakland, California, more than twice her age. Despite the huge age gap, Jackie was pleasantly surprised. She later described him as ā€œa gentleman and very kind.ā€
After a few dates together, David returned to the United States. But just three months later, he flew back to the Philippines to see Jackie again and continue their relationship.
In 2018, the couple got married and moved to the United States. Jackie says their wedding day was one of the happiest days of her life, even though her parents and siblings were unable to attend.
Today, David is 70 and Jackie is 28. They openly share their life together on TikTok, where their 42-year age difference attracts plenty of criticism. Some people say David looks like her grandfather, while others accuse Jackie of being interested only in his money.
But Jackie remains unfazed.
ā€œPeople think heā€™s my grandfather, but weā€™re very much in love,ā€ she says.
David, who was initially concerned about how their relationship would be perceivedā€”especially because he is even older than Jackieā€™s parentsā€”has a simple response to the critics:
ā€œAge is just a number.ā€
