As the tallest animals on Earth, giraffes have long been a symbol of transcendence, associated with spiritual development and opening of the crown chakra. Giraffes are also known for having the strongest, most gravity defying hearts in the world, capable of pumping blood to their brains 10 feet up their necks.
Interdimensional Kiss illustrates a reunion between two great loves, separated by a kink in the multiverse. The installation embodies the strength of heart it takes, to traverse a chasm between worlds. Through the power of hearts entangled in that oh-so quantum way, burners will create “loving action at a distance” between two giraffes divided by the cacophony of wide-open playa. Interdimensional Kiss is about the kind of love that feels old even when it is new and new even when it is old, a union between souls that have met before, perhaps in another world? Another life? Interdimensional Kiss is about Loves who find each other through the miracle of chaos, the destiny of randomness. Interdimensional Kiss is about allowing one’s heart to lead, which first requires settling into that heart, tuning in to where it wants to guide you and focusing on moving along the path it illuminates.
Interdimensional Kiss is a highly interactive large-scale art installation comprised of two 40-foot-tall, heart covered giraffes on wheels that will invite 2020 burners to coordinate their group efforts in order to facilitate the full splendor of the project by rising to the challenge of moving the two giraffes across nearly two miles of open playa to kiss one another. The installation incorporates programmed LEDs, music and the use of visual biofeedback to modulate one’s heart rate variability. One person sits inside the giraffe’s heart and uses meditative breathing to bring their heart rate into “coherence” this unlocks the breaks on the giraffe’s wheels and allows a team of people to push it toward its soulmate (the other giraffe). When the giraffes kiss, an explosion of LED patterns is triggered around the hearts and Tchaikovsky’s Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet plays on speakers.
