All Tomorrow's Guitars All Tomorrow's Guitars is where I share my love of guitars. I am not a luthier.

I'm just a guy who likes to make pretty things, and how much better when they are not only functional, but fill the heart with song, and the soul with joy as well!

The lucky person that bought the blue Strat requested some changes, and I'm glad he did. For some silly reason, I didn't stain the neck; I just waxed it and left the natural white maple finish. Also, I didn't come up with a wooden back plate, and at the time had not worked with veneers, so I just slapped a white pearloid cover on it and called it good. Lame. He requested I update those items.
The body wood is soft, and he's not geared to tremelo much more than I am, so we hard-tailed the bridge. To do that, and have a way to mount it, I had to fill the cavity. Photos show that process, along with making the back plate. I stained the neck and glossed the headstock and heel, and oiled/waxed the neck super smooth.

Just about ready for prime time. There's a description in my previous post, so I won't repeat it. Still touching up the binding, but she's ready to go up for sale. Message me if you would like to plug in and crank her up. With lovely hardshell case, 650.00.

Okay, this one kicked my butt, but I am pleased with the results. Not fully finished. The binding still needs a lot of sanding, and my amber k***s did't fit, so these are on for temps. Neck still wants a lot more oil and wax. There's a rosewood truss rod cover to match the pickup rings.
Body is solid mahogany, with a one-piece mahogany neck and rosewood fret board, and quilted maple veneer. Grover tuners, bone nut, Korean Epiphone electronics with Probucker pickups and coil-splits make it all sound awesome. I used mahogany veneer to make the back cover plates.
I'll take official pics when I get k***s, but here's a glimpse of ATG #009.

I finally took official photos of "Brownie," ATG #008. While there are a few imperfections (horrors!), and a few details yet to finish, such as scraping the binding, all in all, she's the best guitar I've built. Something about the overall balance, feel, action, maybe the tactile quality of the satin-finished top. . . it just feels right. I love playing it. Theoretically, I built it to sell, but I don't seem to be in any hurry to finish it.
It has a one-piece, solid mahogany neck which has proven to be very stable; I'll let it sit for several days, and it will still be in tune when I pick it up. It has a not-often-seen one-piece flamed mahogany body, with a full 5/8" maple cap, and spalted maple veneer top. The Epiphone Classic '57 pickups and electronics have a rich, deep voice, and good tone control. This is not a high-pitched guitar by any means and there is loads of sustain. The fret board is mystery wood, which, given what I recently read from a Chinese importer, I'm starting to think may be rosewood that has been dyed black to get past import restrictions.

Took a couple months off for neck fusion surgery. Didn't really intend to start another project right away, but in the pain-killer daze, I did. Flame action was a major reason for wanting to do the guitars in the first place, but I got side-tracked. So howzabout a curly, flame maple Paul? Here's some in progress pics:

I've been too busy playing this baby to make this post! Well, that and a lot of other stuff. But here she is! ATG #008, my best build yet. This thing plays better than any of them. Something about it. The Epiphone '57 Classic pickups and wiring are lush and gorgeous through the Vox. Very low-voiced; in a way, while there is good note separation in full open chords, they can tend toward a darkness or what some would call muddiness. At the same time, they have their own unique sound that is beautiful. Whereas some of my guitars I have to roll off the highs, this one I can play with the pots wide open.
The back is one solid piece of mahogany, and it has a full 5/8" maple cap under the spalted maple veneer. As with the other oddball Pauls, the neck heel and body join don't fully match up, so I still have to do a little woodwork project to finish that. And I think a tuner is crapping out; they are pretty cheap, and I'll probably just go ahead and replace them here soon.
Also need to do official pics, but here's some quick snaps:

Life calls the dance. It was the week for a massive bike wreck, which put me out of commission for a day, and unrelated doctor visits and busing to Boulder for tests. I did manage to get the bridge posts drilled and mounted. Today, I pray, electronics!

Finally! Together again. Intonation is good with the new mahogany neck, though I am going to get a bridge that is adjustable front and back to get a bit more length on the bass side. Shout out for the Artec filtertron-style humbuckers. They are truly amazing. Buy them. Use them. They will make you very happy. Here's a sunrise shot:

D'oh! My You Tube channel will be called How Not to Build a Guitar. After the ordeal with the first neck, I now have one with the correct size heel. All excited, I sanded, stained, and finished it in record time. After attaching and reattaching several times trying to get the angle right, I was ready to rock. It was only when I heard the bad intonation that I remembered what started this mess in the first place: my bridge placement is a little short; I needed to buy myself a little scale length. I forgot to place the neck accordingly. *sigh* All right. One more time, with style.

I was worried my Strat copy didn't have any bottom end. Boy, was I wrong. The problem was my lttle practice amp. I just needed 50 Vox watts through a 12 inch Celestion speaker, that's all. I keep backing off the bass! Thing is insane. Bill approves.

Progress! After waiting for the budget to catch up with my appetites, today I ordered necks for both the red PRS and for the brown, spalted maple LP. I would love to have those built in time for Christmas. We'll see how USPS is faring these days.
Having completely rebuilt the Dragonfly, it seemed a shame to use the original crappy styrene cover plates, so I made these this last week.
