A Gift That Says, “You Matter”

Many acts of kindness begin with a simple question: What is missing? For Shreya Sharath, a high school student in New York, the answer was not necessarily more donations. Communities already collect clothing, toiletries, school supplies and other necessities for people experiencing difficult circumstances. When a mother called for help after a frightening accident in a rainy park, five teenagers did not hesitate. They called emergency services, guided responders and stayed with the family until help arrived.

Their actions are a reminder that kindness is not always a grand gesture. Sometimes it is noticing that someone needs help and choosing to step forward.
