Education. Nature. Community. The Kentucky Mushroom Festival (KMF) is a community gathering inspired by fungi, nature, and the land-based traditions of Appalachia. What began as a mushroom-focused event has grown into a weekend centered on learning, exploration, and connection to the natural world. Throughout the festival, attendees can participate in guided mushroom and plant walks, educational t

alks, and hands-on workshops covering topics such as wild foods, herbalism, ecology, and sustainable living. The festival also highlights traditional Appalachian crafts and heritage skills, including demonstrations and workshops in areas such as blacksmithing, woodworking, and other hands-on arts. With camping, music, community, and a vendor village, KMF brings together educators, artisans, foragers, and curious minds to celebrate the forests, culture, and knowledge that shape the Appalachian region.

🍄 KMF FESTIVAL Q&A - YOU’VE GOT QUESTIONS, WE’VE GOT ANSWERS!

Coming to Kentucky Mushroom Festival for the first time? Here are answers to some of the questions you might have before we meet you in the holler.

🎟️ Can I come for just one day?
Yes! Friday and Saturday day passes are available, along with full weekend passes. You can also purchase tickets on-site

🏕️ Do I have to camp?
Nope! Come for the day or make a weekend of it. Primitive camping is included with weekend passes.

🍄 Is this only for people who are REALLY into mushrooms?
Not at all. You don’t need to know your chanterelle from your Chicken of the Woods. KMF is mushrooms, nature, music, art, food, learning, and a weekend on the Rockcastle River.

👧 Is KMF kid-friendly?
Absolutely! Kids under 6 get in FREE, and tickets for ages 6-15 are $20.

📚 Do workshops and classes cost extra?
Nope! Festival programming is included with admission.

📋 When will the festival schedule be available?
Soon! We’ll release the full schedule before the festival so you can start planning your weekend, and we'll have schedules to provide all attendees upon arrival.

🗺️ Will there be a venue map?
Yes! We’ll release a venue map before the festival showing camping, programming areas, vendors, food, bathrooms, and other important locations.

♿ What about accessibility and ADA camping?
Accessibility is important to us. We’ll have two camping locations reserved for ADA camping, both located close to the heart of the festival. If you have specific accessibility needs or questions about navigating the natural terrain at Rockcastle Riverside, please reach out to us before the festival.

🐕 Can I bring my dog or other animals
While we're animal lovers, this event is NOT a pet-friendly festival. Of course, if you have a registered support animal that is different, we ask that you please fill out our Pre-registration form: https://forms.gle/nXmPwxvij1iX6tpc7

🚻 What’s the bathroom and shower situation?
You won’t be roughing it "that" much. 😂 We’ll have porta-potties throughout the festival, plus four on-site bathrooms.

And yes, there are showers! 🚿 Two have guaranteed hot water, and three have water that we’ll generously describe as... not exactly hot. 😅

🧊 Will there be ice?
YES! Ice will be available on-site.

💵 Will there be an ATM on-site?
NO! There will not be an ATM at the festival, so we strongly suggest planning ahead and bringing some cash. Cell service can be unpredictable, which may also affect card transactions with vendors.

👕 Will there be KMF merch?
Of course! 🍄 Official 2026 KMF merch is coming, and we’ll be giving you a first look VERY soon. 👀

🍴 Will there be food?
Yes! We’ll have food and drink vendors on-site, including options for different dietary needs.

🏪What is the closest grocery store?
The closest full-service grocery is Save A Lot, located in Mount Vernon, KY

🌊 Can I get in the Rockcastle River?
YES! Bring something you don’t mind getting wet. We recommend packing water shoes.

🌧️ What if it rains?
KMF is rain or shine. It’s Kentucky in September, so prepare for sunshine, rain, chilly evenings, and whatever else Kentucky decides to throw at us.

🧳 What should I bring?
Comfortable shoes, a reusable water bottle, a camp chair or blanket, layers, rain gear, sunscreen, bug spray, a flashlight/headlamp, and river clothes are all good ideas. If you’re camping, don’t forget your camping setup!

⛺Bringing an RV?
You will need to reserve an RV spot through Rockcastle Riverside. https://www.hipcamp.com/en-US/land/kentucky-rockcastle-riverside-nelhw7no?adults=1&children=0

🏕 Don’t want to bring a tent?
Rent one - Dancin’ Days festival - https://dancindayscamping.com/collections/frontpage/products/kentucky-mushroom-festival

🔥 Can I have a fire at my campsite?
Yes! Campfires are allowed at your campsite. HOWEVER, you are required to bring an above-ground device (such as a portable fire pit or camp stove). Individual ground fires are prohibited. Please keep fires contained, attended, and follow any fire-safety guidelines in place during the festival.

🪵 Will firewood be available for purchase?
Yes! Firewood will be available for purchase on-site, so you won’t need to haul your weekend supply with you.

NOTE: In alignment with state park and Daniel Boone National Forest guidelines, you SHOULD NOT transport outside firewood to the venue, as this can introduce destructive pests to the local ecosystem.

📵 Will I have cell service?
We’re spending the weekend by the river in rural Kentucky, so don’t count on perfect cell service. Consider it permission to unplug a little.

🚗 What about parking and check-in?
We’ll post gate times, parking instructions, and check-in information to attendees before the festival.

🍄 Still have a question we didn’t answer?

🐐🌿 EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT: Samantha Bayless of Rustic Forrest Farm & Sanctuary & AHHA-Center

What does it mean to live with the land, rather than simply on it?

At KMF, Samantha and team will lead two sessions exploring our relationships with animals, the land, and the communities we’re part of.

🌱 Stewardship of Land, Animals & Community
Explore animal husbandry, sustainable land management, and what a mutually beneficial relationship with animals can look like, from goats and brush management to herd health, fencing, predator protection, and the larger ecosystem.

🐐 Learning to Listen: Animal Communication & Consent
This hands-on session invites participants to slow down and pay attention to what animals are already communicating through movement, body language, proximity, behavior, and choice.

And yes… there will be goats. Which may or may not be the most important detail in this entire post. 👀🐐

🌿 EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT: Nina Holm-Hudson

Nina is shaped by a lifetime of music, family, teaching, religious trauma, travel, Buddhist philosophy, and more. Her mindfulness practice began in 2019 with Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and has since grown through silent retreats and years of intentional practice.

At KMF, Nina is bringing two very different classes to get out of your head and into the present:

🌎 Connecting to the Earth (class one)
Slow down and tune in. Nina will guide you through the senses to notice what the Earth is offering right now, accompanied by peaceful guitar from Kevin Holm-Hudson. Quiet contemplation, mindfulness, and a little space away from the noise.

💃 Groovin’ in the Grove (class two)
Now forget the quiet part. This 45-minute, completely unchoreographed movement journey invites you to embody earth, water, fire, air, and ether through music and free movement.

One asks you to be still. The other asks you to move. Both ask you to be fully where your feet are...which is with us at KMF.
