Empty Space

I've buried pages deep in drawers
My sun-bleached armchair in the corner is the only other soul to have read them
Some fine lines only have file in my mind,
Tabs with tattered edges from a frequent pull,
The hidden laughter that turns one cheek up,
While the dialogue within shouts streams of prose at endless ears that exist in ether alone.
I know the waves still find you in the floating dust as they shift through the window,
When your body stills and your mind finds it's relief in unrestricted wandering.

"Dream Date"
Hung on the end of my rack,
There's this gorgeous little black dress,
Inviting me to adventure and love.
Beckoning an endless dream's success.

With rhinestone bows on the shoulders,
Short enough to feel like a wink.
I have no one to show it to.
But, I've been thinking I'll pair it with pink.

Then it hit me like lightning,
A thunderous and righteous strike.
Your eyes with that twinkle,
Your sweetly discerning squint.
An impish, one-browed hike.

Let me be reckless; let me hide it away.
I'll honor all future paths, but bid none of them stay.
By saving it for that one elusive, and bright, bodiless day.

"On the Fringe"

I first saw him in my dreams
Then he came to life
A mannequin of struggle,
A vessel of strife.

I wrapped my fingers 'round him,
Once I found him true.
"I've no clue where we're going,
But I'm happy it's with you."

The tangled fate weaved it's web,
More knotted than we knew.
But in it's wise unspindling,
We were parted into two.

I built up my defenses,
But threw caution to the wind.
"I've no clue where we're going,
But I'm happy you're my friend."

Then I saw your face again,
My heart turned periwinkle blue,
If you still make this body ache,
Then tell me, "Who are you?"

"Odin's Messenger"

Their ravens brought me to you
A dark soul, wandering the night,
She once called herself the sun
Swallowing stars as she mined for a deeper light
He held her up to the sky admiring
Her faintly flickering shine.
The hard-sown, cloudless ember of
Short bursts through endless wine.

"The Grim Reapress"

Life begins with death
May I hold your soul?
We must see we've made our diamond,
Or yet another tarnished coal.

I've a great white feather
With which to weigh your time.
Set it one-side of the scale,
with space on the other,
for thine earthly pantomime.

Is your heart with joy,
or with sorrow still?
Did life teach you it's loving best?
Did you reap from the ground you till?

Or did you fade into the crowd,
Find your safety in the rest?
Fail to listen to the voice inside,
Your bold, courageous pest.
"You're bold, courageous pest!"

Im afraid that voice you heard
Which sounds just like your own,
Is the grim reapress in you,
A rock in your shoe,
Telling you, you're all on your own.

"The Darkened Doorstep"

Many people run away from the fact that there is basically nothing to know except what is inside.

We build entire castles around pieces of our self-splintered personalities, and set them to war with each other, engrossing ourselves in the micro melodramas over their logical claims to mental property.

Rather than realize the acute possibility of anything happening without our explicit control or consent, at any given moment, we resign ourselves to creating looped mazes of morality with sparse, star-topped gazebos of vantaged clarity.

Man fears surrender to his own nature more than anything else. It rears it's snarling head at inopportune moments, upending him from his own darkened doorstep beneath, like a stray and starving dog left out in the cold. When, if he had only treated himself as a loyal companion throughout the unexpected and anomalic circumstances, he'd be much more courageous and understanding.

Is impending doom truly impending if it's predicated and followed by an unwhispered fortuity? An unrealized and constant alliance cheekily hides in the place she is most afraid to look.

Regardless of what stone she may turn over, the love of her life is right next to her. She can face each strange, yet inevitable tangling that may find her. Righteous, as the angelic hero that the darkened doorstep welcomed: for her grand and gilded entrance.

"Hermit Period"

I retreat to understand, not to evade-
To sift through fallen leaves, in quiet earthy shade;
To wear and model each new bud
as jewelry for my heart;
To kiss the dew and say 'thank you,'
For each instance to restart.

Too, I sat, and listened slow,
As the wind found flight around me.
Their fingers tracing sacred spells
Breaking streams first ushered by thee.

How the earth begins to rumble, echoing mishaps low-
The constant waves laying to sleep their own begrudging tow.

I felt the tuning fork within shiver and emit
A falling fade from the brightest glade, to which I must commit.

I gathered my lantern, dark cloak, a dear star;
Mine menageried introspection.
Approaching the next dawn with vigor afforded
by painfully joyous; sublime reflection.

🀍🐈

What does it mean to be a "tomorrow cat" to you?
Are we all just looking for the next best thing, or waiting on satisfaction to come? When we find it, what will we do with it?

"Tomorrow Cat"

A stray tomorrow cat,
Had walked the streets,
until, at last, he found
A plate of milk, with froth like silk,
Just sat upon the ground.

At first, the thought of such a treat,
Brought out a hiss and yowl.
For other lone, lost morsels of food
Were oft followed by stranger's growl.

When he'd scanned from left to right,
And came to find no danger,
He slowly circled, and he stalked
This tempting, creamy stranger.

Soon he wandered close enough
Persuaded by rising aroma;
Italian sweet cream, swirls of coffee,
Nostalgia for fair Verona.

His thirst could not be stifled thus.
The bruiser plunged his tongue in,
To find a flavor, calm, but bold,
Like Magnolias he had hung in.

Like that, the dish of cream was gone,
A quick-swiped tongue across his lip,
Life can be kind, so let it be known,
Trust is all we are called to equip.
