Very wise words!
If youโre going to do it, do it right.
No excuses. No exceptions.
Contestants of all ages, this starts with YOU.
Hold yourself accountable. If youโre going to invest your time, effort, and money into this sport, then be all in. If not, you should seriously consider choosing another sport. This isnโt something you do to be โcoolโ or to impress anyone. This is a dangerous, demanding sport, and anything less than 100% commitment can result in serious, even life-threatening injuries; to you or to the livestock youโre on.
If youโre not willing to give it everything you have, stop wasting your coachโs time, your parentsโ time, or anyone else thatโs putting in the effort to make it happen for YOU.
When you practice, practice like itโs a performance. Like thereโs a gold buckle and a million dollars on the line. Test yourself. Push yourself. Fix bad habits, work on mental toughness and strive to be the greatest version of yourself. Why settle for being mediocre when excellence is an option?
And above all, respect matters.
Respect the livestock that makes this sport possible.
Respect the coaches who pour time, knowledge, and patience into you.
Respect the stock contractors who trust you with their animals and put safety first.
Respect your parents, sponsors, and the organizations and anyone else backing you.
Showing up late, unprepared, careless, or entitled is disrespect, plain and simple.
There is no weakness in asking for help. The best athletes do it every day. If you donโt know, ask. If youโre struggling, speak up. If you want to be better, seek guidance. Excuses and silence donโt build champions; accountability and effort do.
Show up as an athlete, not just a contestant. How you act, how you prepare, how you carry yourself, and how you handle wins and losses all matter. Every time you step in the arena and every time youโre outside of it, you are representing yourself, your family, your sponsors, your associations, and the sport as a whole.
PARENTS! Youโre not exempt from this.
You are just as responsible. Your actions set the standard for what your contestant believes is acceptable. If youโre willing to haul your kids thousands of miles and invest the money, then help them invest in being the best they can be. The greatest support you can give isnโt excuses or shortcuts. Itโs accountability, discipline, and high expectations.
STOCK CONTRACTORS! This applies to us all too. We are just as accountable, if not more. If theyโre being held to a standard we should be too.
Itโs all one big revolving circle. Effort, accountability, respect and trustworthiness makes it all go round.
Do right by the sport, the future and all those backing it.
This sport demands commitment, discipline, respect, and heart.
If youโre going to do it. BE ALL IN.
