The little bunny
By Suzanne Johnson

It was a bright morning out
The little bunny thought
I think I'll go and paint some eggs
And maybe take a walk.

Hopping along the path of grass
He stopped to take a whiff
I smell some chocolate candy here!
Or is my mind just playing tricks?

He shook his little tail
And raised his bunny ears
I could swear I heard something
Like laughter and cheers.

Oh no my mind must be doing that again!
Dreaming is all I can do.
Momma says it's good to dream
Just don't let it get to you.

Then he twitched his nose all around
Listened as best as he could
I suppose I'll go a little further down
But I wonder if I should?

My Momma says I can't go too far
Then maybe I'd get lost
So I'll just stay in my forest here
And very carefully watch.

So along he went on his way
Looking for his friends
And hoping there is candy there
When the trail comes to an end.

Finally! He was there
And around him all his friends
And guess what else was there
When the trail came to an end?

It was not his mind playing tricks on him!
Shouted his friend the duck
Quaking while trying to speak
This is just your luck!

There is chocolate I see over there
Your favorite kind that is
Sitting in his favorite spot
Quacking while eating his.

Quack Quack chocolate!

The little bunnies eyes grew
And his mouth began to swell
Just thinking of the sweet surprise
Suited him very well.

So all along he was not dreaming
It really did exist
Not to mention the greatest thing
Having friends to share it with.

Fly away

She waited and waited
Dreaming of the day
That her love would come around
And they could fly away.

That cage is just too little
And even though she might be small
She can barely open her wings
And she can't fly at all.

But if her love were to show up
When the sky was orange and pink
He could use the key to her heart
And then listen to what she thinks.

The door would open freely
And spirits shining again
He'd bring with him the letter
That he was too scared to send.

Then they'd fly away.

Incomplete version of
"Home from the Forest"
By: Suzanne D. Johnson 2013

I understand more than you know
Many troubles I've seen in life
But I never gave up as I feel you have
I just wish you'd see things right.

The whole friend thing is a sore point
This too I understand
Just don't want to see you
Give the wrong people a trusting hand.

How can someone so special
Be so self destructive?
Why can't you see how wonderful you are
And make it more productive?

You may say I'm overprotective
And that I'm just too much
Can't you see me crying here?
Please know I miss you so much.

How many are around you now
That literally have no love
Why when your Family offers this
Would you ever want to shove?

I mean really what have I done so wrong
To feel the way I do?
And why must it hurt so bad
When you continue....to punish you?

For J
As the years pass -

I know that you hate being alone
I've felt that way myself.
At what cost is enough though?
It's like your someone else.

Holidays come and go now
Your not around for your kids
They think about you all the time
Wishing they had love that you'd give.

But no you made your choices
And let addiction win.
There are no more excuses
For this hole your living in.

We are all getting older now
Your kids almost all grown.
Now look at all the years you've passed
And it was nobody's fault but your own.

I hope that if you read this,
You'll suspect that it's about you
I hope that when you shed a tear
It's because you wanted to live too!

I hope one day you figure out
how to change your plans.
Dust off your pants, please get up
Let go of addictions hand.

Glow anyway
By: Suzanne D. Johnson

If your restless at night
Full of broken sleep
And your thoughts get so heavy
Causing pain inside you keep.

🩷Glow anyway

If you wake up so tired
Looking for strength for just today
Look around you, drink the coffee
Get a hot shower, wash away.

🩷Glow anyway

If depression makes it seem
You've got chains on your feet
And you can't bring yourself to talk about
All the pain you've hidden deep.

🩷Glow anyway

All we can do is look forward
No don't look behind!
Follow light and laughter
And you then just might find

🩷You've always glowed anyway!

Sad with a chance of sunshine

Pretty blue sparkle eyes
but a sadness deep within.
How could anyone not notice
all the trouble he's been in?

How can I fix this...
when I can't even fix myself?
others adding insult to my injuries leaves me feeling quite like hell.

I'm bent now, jaded,
whatever you'd like to say....
In a dark lonely place again
and I can't seem to find my way.

My heart again so weary
and it sometimes hurts so bad,
I almost gave up the hope I have
that I won't always be this sad.

But I know in time it will get better, I just can't wait till then.
So for now I'll stand in the sunshine
and that warmth will be my friend.

Don't do it for me

Did you know that
your a glimmer oh hope?
But I see pain in your eyes
That you've never spoke.

You've changed with the season
I can clearly see
Get up please!
But don't do it for me.

Care for yourself
How you would for others
Understand your worth
Like you, there is no other.

You are brave and courageous
You've been here before
I know you can do it
Just a few steps more.

I'd love to see you better
And I'm on my bended knees
Get up please!
But don't do it for me.
