We are beyond excited that our Don Stivers exhibit was a smashing success!

Don Stivers was an American artist known for his portrayal of historical and military subjects. His formal art training began at the California College of Arts and Crafts after serving two years as a Navy corpsman in WWII.

Stivers and his wife, Beverly, relocated from Connecticut to Loudoun County, Virginia in 1990. He joined, and enjoyed being a member of, the Loudoun Sketch Club where he and his fellow artists would set up their easels and capture the beauty of the local Virginia countryside.

What is amazing about his work is not only the variety but the fact that he was simultaneously painting in these various styles at the same time.

His résumé includes illustrations for Readers Digest and Field & Stream, and the book covers for the James Herriot ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ series. He did the portraits of Charles De Gaulle, John Connally and Admiral Elmo Zumwalt for the covers of Time magazine. He also began doing portraits of Federal judges – work that he continued for many years.

In the comments section are 10 of our favorite pieces from the exhibit. All are of different styles and really depict the entire catalog of his work. Please leave a comment on your favorite and see if it is the same as ours!

While our doors may be closed, we’ll still bring the Gallery to you online. During our temporary closure, we’ll take you on a tour, gallery by gallery—each day we’ll focus on one room and the works of art on view within it. We’ll hear from curators on their favorites, look closely, and learn more about the many triumphs of human creativity that hang on our walls.

Among art’s many powers is its ability to relieve stress—we hope this will bring a bit of peace to your lives.

Have you seen this work in progress? Congrats to Town of Leesburg, Virginia and Friends of Leesburg Public Arts for supporting public art!
in 2019 I had the great pleasure to host a couple of art shows (and happy hours) at our Sotheby's Real Estate office in downtown Leesburg. While all my 2020 plans have been pretty much washed out, I still love supporting the arts and hopefully 2021 will bring us all back together again!

Assuming I do get the chance to host a few art shows next year, be sure to LIKE my page, Goodrum - Realtor so that you get on the invite list and have a glass of wine with me and meet some local artists!

You bring your love of art... and I'll bring my "Bob Ross".

The color of the land and sky out west is so different from Virginia. Shadows of blue and purple, sun spots of sienna, peach and orange spoke to my heart. I loved this color adventure!
