I love this story that my colleague and friend Anne shared. It’s such a beautiful reminder that letting go of something doesn’t mean its story is over.

One of the hardest parts of downsizing or clearing a loved one’s home is wondering what will happen to the things they treasured. We like to remind our clients that when those belongings are sold or donated, they have a chance at a new life with someone who will appreciate and enjoy them.

This globe traveled all the way from a California estate sale to a home in Massachusetts, where it is now loved and looks as though it was always meant to be. We don’t always get to know where our things will end up, but stories like this remind us that letting go can be the beginning of a wonderful new chapter. 🌎💙

I found this globe at an estate sale while I was visiting my parents in California.

It immediately caught my eye. I walked away, thinking, How in the world am I going to get this back to Massachusetts?

Then a neighbor mentioned to my dad that it had caught his eye too. That was all the encouragement I needed—I went back, bought it, and (after a shipping bill I’ll choose not to think about 😅) it made its way home.

Now it sits here looking like it was always meant to be.

Estate sales are funny that way. They’re filled with things that once meant something to someone else. Sometimes an item simply catches your eye. Other times it reminds you of a person, a memory, or a chapter of your own life. I could have sworn someone in my family had a globe just like this, although no one seems to remember.

Maybe that’s why I love wandering estate sales. They’re not just about finding things—they’re about discovering stories.

What’s the one thing you’ve found at an estate sale, antique shop, or flea market that you absolutely had to bring home and still love today?

When this family first called us, they lamented that their house was "kind of a mess." They were not making good use of their space, rooms were serving multiple purposes, and no one knew where to put things. 🤷

Meg has been working with them once a month, room by room, banishing clutter from the house, giving each room a primary purpose, and creating organizing systems so every item has a home. 🏠

The family has really embraced the systems, and the new habits are sticking! 🎉

Last week we hit pause on project work to focus on creating a better experience for our clients. 💙

We spent a full day learning from each other and from our expert friend Kim Cox of Packrat Solutions, optimizing our processes, practicing new skills, sharing our favorite tools and products, cuddling with team mascot Shiloh, and enjoying each other's company!

According to our AI notetaker, some of our key takeaways were:

1) Consistency + Clarity = Confidence. When we work consistently and communicate clearly, our team feels more confident, and so do our clients.

2) Barbara's Cheese Puffs may or may not be healthier than Simply Doritos.

I'm incredibly grateful for this funny, upbeat, hardworking, and talented crew. They show up every day ready to help clients through some of life's biggest transitions with compassion, care, and a plan... and you can tell they love doing it.

Thank you, team, for consistently giving our clients white-glove, 5-star service, and for making Lisa Linard & Co. a happy and inspiring place to work! ❤️

Today we experienced a job like no other! On a beautiful, sunny day, our clients met us at R.C. Mason Movers to gather on their loading dock and open five vaults that their sister had stored there more than 50 years!!! (We won't tell you how much she paid to store them. Let's just say it was a LOT.😬)

The vaults were chock full of treasures that she had inherited from their grandmother's home and never had a place for. With every one they cracked open, we waited with bated breath to see what was inside. They did not disappoint!

Our good friend Henry Jensen of Henry Jensen Antiques & Collectibles came by and bought lots of the smaller vintage goodies, we took photos of all of the furniture so we could send them to our consignment partners, and the family took home a handful of items that brought back warm memories of their grandmother.

The rest we donated. MISSION of DEEDS, Inc. was happy to take a sturdy dresser and some tables, lamps, and art. Other items went to Goodwill and Savers for someone else to discover and enjoy.

Thanks to the stellar crew at RC Mason for keeping the vaults coming and doing the heavy lifting. We look forward to working with you again!

If you have a storage unit you've been ignoring for too long, let's crack it open and see what's inside!
