special post with real time thoughts ☔️🌧️ 🌀

it’s our first storm since we moved to the mainland and i’m pretty anxious. i’ve tried to limit my time on my phone just to ensure i’m not feeding that anxious pit already sitting in my stomach. if you also get anxious during times like this, it really helps following credible sources (city and county official sources and local weather coverage), i’ve found it really grounding and helps with silencing those “what if’s” a tad bit. following credible and accurate reporting matters because misleading information is out there, so fact checking is crucial. i can’t begin to express the countless generative ai posts and videos i’ve seen this morning of the gulf and the pensacola area and how “bad” the storm is already looking…

i’m not too sure how severe recovery efforts will look like for us, but i’ll be sharing reliable resources via text and stories to make sure our community is aware. i may be doing some on the ground reporting while recovery efforts are ongoing, so please feel free to follow and share Rooted Ally for local reporting as well.

precisely this! every connection and story matters ❤️

When people hear "family photography," they often picture young children.

But family is so much bigger than that.

It's grandparents. Adult children. Empty nesters. New relationships. Long relationships. And sometimes, it's the bond between a person and the pet who has been by their side through it all.

Documentary family photography isn't about a particular age or stage of life.

It's about the relationships that matter most.

Sometimes, those relationships are found in a quiet walk with an old friend who just happens to have four legs.

a little long overdo intro! 🧚🏻🍅🧡

The past week I connected with so many creatives and really pushed myself to step out of my comfort zone. It has finally come to my senses that the fear of looking “silly” is quite literally holsing me back in so many ways with my art and “work”. Hearing someone speak so passionately about their work and why they do it is literally like the coolest thing EVER. ⭐️

A little series i’m doing called Document Your E, where I talk about documentary photography, my process and putting myself out there to help my dream clients find me, because I truly know they are and I can’t wait to connect, have big ol’ laughs with them and honor their stories. ❤️

why do we take photos of food?

It’s a question that warrants many different answers, but it all comes down to two things. We take photos of our food for memory, or proof of a part of our lives lived, and one we share with others.

This approach to photographs in general is not something new. We do it on a daily basis. That morning matcha, our kids and their crazy hair day s, the long line of hot wheels organized neatly, bumper to bumper… and why? Because some day we will want to relive that connection and emotional tote to that event, even if it’s now in the past.

And that’s the type of photographs my heart lives with.

Summer was filled with many memories to include some firsts, like the first splash pad experience or our first time watering the plants together. There is also a bit of growth that slowly shaped this summer, for me. Putting your art out there for others to see is such a vulnerable thing, and it can absolutely shake your confidence and make you feel like an imposter even in a space you’ve been in for several years. BUT there is something so beautiful and intimate in the work made by artists. Art was made to be felt, connect people, expressive, and freeze time. In the areas that i take up space, it will always remain just that.
