Here's the story on how a failed Stranger Things Cosplay led to the creation of my first hand painted tennis shoes 👟

So a few Halloweens ago, my partner and I were planning on going to a company party dressed as Nancy and Steve from Stranger Things. We went all out, thrifting, decorating our apartment in theme, then we got all of our pieces and night of? I completely chickened out. 😅 All of the pieces I was able to find were three times my size and honestly made me look like a walking circus tent rather than Nancy Wheeler.
We still had fun, but I knew I needed to redeem this moment to feel better about the whole thing.

Cut to, Demon Slayer Shoes! 🤺👹

Since we had Steve's Shoes, but no use for them, I took the opportunity right before my last UK trip to paint them. I never used Posca Acrylic Markers before this and honestly, I'm so glad I pushed out of my comfort zone to give this project a try! This roughly took a week and change to finish, so I can let the layers dry properly in between coats.

I might need to take professional photos of these at some point so don't be surprised if these kicks pop up again. 😄

"Eureka!"
- Wantsom Mor, Venture Tales

This is one part of a 3 part series of posters I made of my friends DND characters for their twitch stream, Venture Tales. So more to come soon! 😄

Since Mor is the team's Artificer, I wanted to push his mad scientist meets drunken pirate background with Victorian arsenic wallpaper to hint at his minds inner workings. Additionally, given he's on a ship, I figured having open shelves would help convey that not only is Mor not afraid of a bit of mess but would be the kind of guy to brush it off, as totallllllly going to stay put 😉😂

When I was sketching out my initial thumbnails, I wanted to have the viewer feel like they just caught him in mid breakthrough. That's why in his hand, he's holding a familiar face, an early Mr. Peabody prototype. You'll see this little guy as his sidekick and creation on the stream! 🤖

When I spoke to his player, Nate, he mentioned how Mor was the kind of guy who like a raccoon. Mor will make treasure out of trash, this really got me inspired! I added additional clutter to the space to really emphasize how cramped these ship quarters would be while also hinting at his chaotic nature.

I'm planning on expanding on all of the concepts in a bit more detail as I post. So if you're curious about hearing my tools, and processes from conceptualization to finished product, just let me know! 😉
