Thanks for the kind words! I worked with Beth to make sure her tree was perfect for her parents' anniversary. I added her grandparents as roots and changed our usual loopy handwriting font to something still elegant, but easier to read. We also included all the dogs in the family. ⁠

This lovely daughter of mine is the reason I have an Etsy shop. Her name is Sydnie. She has autism, and because of that and her needs, I can't have a typical job. And that is in no way a bad thing. I love that my Etsy shop lets me work around my child's schedule.

When our shop was only getting a handful of orders a month, I thought I could go back to teaching--I was a high school English teacher before I was a mom. I have 3 kids all in school. It seemed reasonable. I was in the middle of an interview when I realized that it was not going to work. Scary and sad things happened when we tried to bring in others to help with Sydnie's care. I needed the flexibility to be there when I was needed. So I stayed at home.

Still, I didn't start thinking of our Etsy shop as my job until last year when we experienced a covid miracle and more than doubled our sales. Suddenly, it became more than just a side hustle that brought in a little extra to help pay the bills. Now I am trying to learn what I can to keep it growing. Thanks to .loren and for the class on Instagram. I am way out of my depth here, and will honestly have to Google most of what I learned (how do I make a poll on my stories???), but hopefully I've got this.

Recently in our Etsy shop, we've had some creative customers turn our family tree design into a Thank-you tree, and I love the results! One customer asked us to make this a gift for their daycare provider. I love the quote she wanted included at the base of the tree. Another customer asked us to create a tree as a gift for their retiring principal. Instead of using the names of children and grandchildren in the branches, we used the names of all the staff at the school. Oh the possibilities!
