Just in time for Gay Pride week in Madrid! But truly one of the best experiences of FGT work I have seen. Each room was as powerful as the next! This deserved a separate post. ….. As a q***r artist working at the height of the AIDS crisis, and within a political climate in the U.S. shaped by the conservative right, the work of Gonzalez-Torres employs a visual language that is purposefully unstable, participatory, and personal. In his elegiac work, the death of his lover to AIDS in 1991 was fundamental. The artist mourned his loss as much as he celebrated their love; the work articulates and enacts this. Gonzalez-Torres’s knowledge of his own impending death from AIDS afforded him the opportunity to contemplate the future of his work, leaving an influential legacy that transforms aesthetic forms into vehicles for both emotional resonance and political urgency.

Enjoyed an incredible walk through of the Marcel Duchamp exhibition at MoMA with curator Matthew Affron, The Muriel and Philip Berman Curator of Modern Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art. It’s so interesting to revisit artists you think you know but haven’t dived into for some time!
