The unimaginable crimes against indigenous children widely reported in current news have prompted Jung Guns Entertainment to draw on its extensive network of indigenous experts in developing a new, four-part series titled “Children Erased” This new project is companion to JGE’s active, indigenous projects, “Women Erased” and “Who Killed Britany Tiger.”
In May, 2021, the shocking discovery of 215 children – some as young as three years old – buried in unmarked graves at the site of a former “residential school” in British Columbia, Canada cast a spotlight on the country’s past policies of forced “assimilation” designed to take control of Indian children by removing their culture, identity and connection to their family. Just last week, a more gruesome find was 751 additional, unmarked graves discovered at a former Saskatchewan residential school. Using ground-penetrating radar, searches are now expanding to over 130 compulsory boarding schools funded by the Canadian government and run by Roman Catholic authorities between 1830 and 1997. More than 150,000 indigenous children were force-taken from their families and placed in Canadian residential schools where they were physically, mentally and sexually abused. Not allowed to speak their language or practice their culture, over 6,000 died while attending these poorly built, poorly heated, grossly unsanitary facilities. Ongoing research will tell if they were victims of plague, starvation… or mass murder at the hands of their Catholic keepers who long ago suspiciously removed all the headstones from the graves. Today, the Catholic Church is refusing to release historic records needed to understand what happened, and why? Canadian Prime Minister Justin Treadeau calls the indigenous purge “Canada’s cultural genocide, and a shameful reminder of the systemic racism, discrimination, and injustice that indigenous people have suffered.” We honor the memory of these innocent, lost children, and pray their families gain peace in their lives, and reconciliation from those responsible.
