Shot UTI 1992. I caught this flick in 1993 and this had quite an influence on me at the time. The simplicity of the letters, the zig zag fill pattern, no drop shadow. It just really stood out to me at the time.

Some people are under the impression that the Vice cans come with a Pink dot. The caps look very similar on the outside, but they spray quite a bit differently. The Vice cap performs pretty much identical to the Astro Fat. The Pink Dot sits somewhere in the middle between a NY Fat and an Astro Fat.

Quick demo of the female NY Fat and female Lego caps doing some 90s style simple letters. These caps both spray super clean. The female NY Fat is nice on most cans, but I found some don’t spray as fat as others. The white can completely clogged despite shaking it for a good ten minutes; that’s Rusto for you. Overall, happy with the female caps. They produce really nice lines without the need for an adapter.

I’ve done some different spray tests with the Rusto Female Fat, but wanted to do a filled in throwie so you could see how it performs on fills. It’s not the widest spray for a fat cap, but it does have a pretty high output so the fills go pretty fast.

Now that the Female NY Fats are out, I’d prefer those for most stuff; if I was filling over a bumpy surface like train ridges or corrugated metal, I’d probably go with this one since it’s sprays a bit far. That should keep the line width pretty similar across different surface heights.

Chapter 22 of The Good Life Handbook, a modern translation of Epictetus’ Enchiridion, is titled:

“Prepare to Be Laughed At.”

The overall idea is that if you have big goals and are setting out to achieve them, you’ll probably have people taking shots at you, doubting you, and even laughing at you. Ignore it and keep moving. If you’re doing what you feel is right, that’s what really matters.

People may mock what they don’t understand. Sometimes your willingness to pursue something difficult also reminds them of what they aren’t willing to do themselves. Either way, their reaction doesn’t have to determine your direction.

The book goes on to say that the people taking shots at you may eventually come around and even admire what you’re doing. But if you give up because of their criticism, you’ll have been laughed at twice; once for trying, and again for quitting.
